🏈 More violations the refs miss because of HUNH

they won't beat Alabama playing like that. for the first time since we've been dealing with the HUNH, read option crap I think Bama's defense is ready. I am prepared to see Alabama bring the hammer down on both state and aubrun and limit them to season lows offensively.

I wondered if it was the eighth official. I checked both AU's and UM's official site and according to both of their game stats pages there were only seven officials for the game. (I've not seen a report on which games have eight this year.)

According to what I've read, he also is responsible for counting offensive players. After looking around I did run across an article about the NFL moving him in 2010 due to injuries to umpires.

@TerryP umpires get creamed a lot when it comes to those inside runs! I clocked an official years ago during a jr high game. Not on purpose but I drilled him none the less. Our DB picked off a pass and was returning it. I was windmilling my arm like the old third base coach I was when I hit something with my elbow. I looked at another coach and asked if I hit him. He said, "Not me, but him!" He pointed to the ground and there laid an official cold as a wedge!! When he came to, he was bleeding from his ear. He told me that he had been run over before as an umpire but had NEVER BEEN HIT THAT HARD! I apologized but he told me it was his fault because I was still in the coaching box and not in the field of play. It was his fault because when he changed directions with the play, he came off of the field and into our box.

I heard Danielson make a comment during their broadcast Saturday that caught me a bit off guard. I don't follow the NFL which leaves me little room to comment on how their officiating crews line up before the play. I could swear he said there's been talk/suggestions on moving one of the officials to the other side of the line in collegiate ball. (Very well may have misunderstood him.)

See the enlarged official versus the embedded X.

Wow, that official is HUGE!! He must be like 10 feet tall and 500 lbs! :D

Who has time to count when they are getting this from the sideline?

You know, I've been thinking about this. 1. Forget rules an that it's a penalty and forget that the stripes missed it, how about personal accoutibility? 2. As the above poster wrote, this can't be the only game this happened in. For one, the players lined up that way. I don't know about you, but if the personell are in the correct position and there is too many people there is chaos and there wasn't any. They knew it and practiced it that way. Just like running back a failed field goal.

OK, this isn't directly related to the HUNH, but the point remains the same.

SEC officials have said a long time that holding happens during every play. I agree with that. They've also said that it's not flagged unless it has a direct bearing on the play.

That said:

This from the second half; one of Dak's longer runs on a QB draw. That's Dak hitting the hole to the left of DePriest.
