"....Thursday also brought an interesting tidbit on the eligibility question when Alabama Crimson Tide football coach Nick Saban said on his talk radio show that University of Alabama president Dr. Robert Witt was the party who flew to Indianapolis to meet with the NCAA.

Why would the president of the University of Alabama fly to speak with the NCAA over an eligibility issue?

Witt didn’t even fly to Miami to hire Nick Saban. He sent Mal Moore.

Those paying attention might see more in the NCAA trip than simply an eligibility issue. And they would likely be right. Only something critically important to the health of the institution would garner the attention of Dr. Robert Witt."

It very well could mean that Dr. Witt wanted to present the case first hand and not leave it up to a subordinate. There's no since in goofing anything up considering the past situations with the NCAA.

The writer of this article seemed to assume the worst, when assuming the best would also explain the same observances.

If you were committed to being a world class organization, and if you had nothing to hide or fear, and if you wanted to leave absolutely no doubt that you were the benchmark for how to handle situations, you would fly your President to present the case.

Sadly however, our performance record approaching the last two DECADES actually causes, with good reason, the negative assumption.

We do NOT deserve the benefit of the doubt. Yet.

Assuming for a minute that operation red dog is a reality, Alabama still has to do things right. Suspending the players and paying the restitution should be all thats necessary. ONLY Alabama can get themselves in trouble. As soon as this guy is exposed for what he is things will settle down. Bottom line is, the University has to deal with all of this in the appropriate manner. As long as that happens things should work out. :elephant:

This. I wish people (in the media) would stop speculating without hardevidence.

I mean, there is reason to the contrary rather than just the doom-n-gloom stuff.

Joeman, I have always tried to look at the positive side of things in life as well as my profession. Co workers used to tell me I was too much of an optimist and not a realist. I believe that in an attempt to get readers, these writers have to put out all of this doom and gloom instead of staying even keeled and say, "Hey Dr Witt took the trip to possibly make sure things weren't bungled as they have been in the past."
