Spring games in football, like spring training in baseball, aren't the place to predict how a team will fare in its upcoming year. But hopes can't be too high at Missisippi State, where two weeks back the White and Maroon teams played through a scoreless regulation and needed — get this — overtime to decide a winner. Chris Relf hit Co-Eric Riley with a 25-yard TD pass for a 6-0 maroon victory. Afterward, Coach Sylvester Croom, who spent most of the game in a TV broadcast booth or the stands, tried to spin the ugly result into a positive. "I'm not judging anything based on today," Croom said. "It's not a true picture of where we are." Hopefully not, Sly. When we last left your Bulldogs, they were slogging to a 10-3 Liberty Bowl victory over UCF. More offense like that, and there will be no bowl in 2008.
