It dawns on me looking around the conference at scores. LSU gets killed by Ole Miss and UT is at USCe tonite.

IF UT loses tonite coupled with a Bama win today we are if very good shape for a first round bye in the SEC tourney. A win vs Auburn might seal it. One of those two teams (LSU or UT) will be eliminated Weds night.

What's the tie-breaker? Head-to-head? Looks like we have a good shot at both teams being 9-7 to me.

While what you are saying is true, technically, the chances are still very good we've secured a bye with this win.

Bama 8-6:
Auburn at home Weds.
Ole Miss on the road Sat.

UT 8-6:
LSU on the road Weds.
Vandy at home Sat.

LSU: 7-7:
UT at home Weds.
Auburn on the road Sat.

I don't see Auburn winning Weds. night in Coleman. In fact, very unlikely. A road win vs Ole Miss? That's a tougher row to how, but just for arguments sake we'll say we drop that one and end at 9-7.

It's likely UT ends the season 0-2, but 1-1 would leave them at 9-7. We have the head to head with UT so that would put us in the fourth and final bye slot. Just about any way you look at it UT is out. They would have to pull a 2-0 to secure the fourth slot.

LSU at 7-7 is the one we'll have to watch. In fact, unfortunately, it'll be this Weds. night that we'll find ourselves rooting for a LSU loss. That'll leave them at either 8-7, a loss at 7-8 with the best possible finish of 8-8 under those circumstances.

Here's where it gets tricky assuming we end up with the same record as LSU.

We both lost to UK so that game is out. Both lost to Vandy and Florida so they're out. The next team up is UT which we have the current head to head with, LSU has Weds. nite.

We both split with MSU. She's out.

NOW, we beat Arkansas twice. LSU split that series.

So, based on the Arkansas win, if we end up tied with all three teams we're in. An LSU loss Weds. and we're in that fourth slot.

One win for Bama and two wins for LSU still leaves LSU on the outside looking in. Two wins by UT puts them in over Bama, but I don't see UT beating Vandy, EVEN in Knoxville.

Two wins to close the season, we're in with NO doubt. But, as I said in the OP, we are in very good shape for the bye.

The tie-breaker for basketball runs like this.

It's head to head followed by records vs #1, then #2, then #3, then #4, and on down the line until you get to #12. If two teams are tied at that point, Slive flips a coin.
