Love it. Call out the problem children and get it fixed if possible.

"What we have now is a system where the Big Ten has the opportunity to most every year get a team into the national championship game that, based on their performance, would not get there through a playoff system," Adams said. "So, they are not dumb people."

Big 10 Problems

I like this statement:

The Rose Bowl is certainly within their rights. It's a great event, a great tradition," he said. "But I think the Cotton Bowl or the Chik-fil-A -- assuming the other three bowls went along and the Rose Bowl didn't -- I think we could find a fourth bowl to come in and do what I've suggested."

Carville pointed out what a potent recruiting tool that scenario would provide for the SEC and Big 12 -- if they could offer recruits the chance to play for a national championship, and the Big Ten and Pac-10 teams would forfeit that opportunity.

"Some of them have figured out that the preservation of the current system is in their own self-interest," Adams said, "and that is what I think we need to get people to apply some pressure on."

He's telling the Rose Bowl, the Big10, and the PAC10, "Get on board, or get left behind"

I agree. If these guys don't want to go along with the rest of the college FB world, fine. Keep your "Grandaddy of Bowls" and your PAC10/Big10 tie-in. But, you won't be able to be the NC.

I'm not a huge playoff proponent. I'd prefer to go back to the old bowl system. But, as long as it stays around 4 to 8 teams, a playoff would be fine with me. Anything over 8 teams starts to diminish the meaning of regular season games.

Eight would be pretty spiffy, especially if the Big 10 and PAC 10 opt out.

If the Big 10 decided they wanted in I'd say make it a 9 team tournament and have their champ in a "play in" game against the Mountain West champ.

Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany has said repeatedly that the conference supports the current system and is strongly opposed to a playoff in any form.

What a tool, this guy is he knows they would get beat in a "FAIR" playoff system, but when you go what 11-1 like they (OSU) did this year only to get beat AGAIN the the NC again by the SEC you would think someone would get the message.

"Some of them have figured out that the preservation of the current system is in their own self-interest," Adams said, "and that is what I think we need to get people to apply some pressure on."

Same here Bo.

What do you think about 6 Joe? Especially if the Big 10 and Pac 10 don't participate.

You could do something like; 2 top ranked SEC teams, top ranked Big 12, top ranked Big East, top ranked ACC and 1 at large.

Or you could go with 8 and extend 2 more at large invites too.

I think the top 8 selected by the BSC system Regardless of Conference ties. I think the current BCS system would chose enought of the best teams to feel good about the NC. I know number 9 would scream bloody H??L. That keeps the drama of the current system and allows best teams in. Some years you would have 3 or 4 SEC teams playing for NC. Some you would be lucky to have one.

1st set of games would be the 4 bowl games next week the semi and next the NC game.

The exact number to invite is tough. You want everyone in who has a real shot at winning it, and this year there would have been more than 8 because of all the upsets, and a bunch of teams who seemed to be near equal. Some years, though, if you insisted on eight, you'd have some first round fodder for a power house team.

If the PAC 10 and Big 10 don't want to play I'd suggest

The champions from the SEC, ACC, Big 12 and Big East; the 2nd best teams from the SEC and Big 12 (by BCS ranking) and the two highest ranked teams chosen from all who are left.

You saying number of teams should change every year based on how good they are? Interesting. The logistic of that could be a nightmare.

The more I think about it, the more I like the Plus 1 idea as far as any type of playoff goes. Keep the BCS like it is. Put your top 8 teams in the 4 BCS games. Then play one more game after that using the 2 teams who wind up #1 and #2 after the BCS games.

I know administering that could be a nightmare, but it could eliminate some first round snoozers like Georgia versus Hawaii. As a practical matter I'd
probably just say let's take the top 8 and live with a first round blow out.
