Miamiās Rhett Lashlee āexcitedā to play Alabama, ābest team in college football over the past 10 yearsā
Lashlee spent three years at Auburn as the offensive coordinator.
Rhett Lashlee is no stranger to the success of the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The former offensive coordinator at Auburn (2013-2016) will put that first-hand experience to good use when the Miami Hurricanes face Alabama in the upcoming season-opener for both teams.
āThe reason you come to the University of Miami is to play in games like that and coach in games like that,ā Lashlee, the Miami offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, said on the ACC Networkās āPacker and Durham,ā per 247Sports. āWe have so much respect for them. I spent six years at Auburn, so I know very well what we are about to face. They are the best team in college football over the past 10 years. They are a phenomenal program with a phenomenal defense. It is going to be a great challenge for us.ā
Lashlee, in 2013, was a finalist for the Broyles Award, given annually to the nationās top college football assistant coach. In that year, his Tigers defeated Alabama 34-28 before losing three straight to the Crimson Tide.
āIf you are a competitor, you come to the University of Miami to play in games like this against a program like Alabama to kickoff the season,ā he said. āYou get all summer to prepare for something and you know right out of the gates where you stand. We are excited about the opportunity.ā
Last month, FanDuel Sportsbook posted Alabama as a 17.5-point favorite over the Hurricanes in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Meanwhile, SportsBetting.ag posted the over/under at 9.5 regular-season wins for the Hurricanes, while Alabamaās number is 11.5.
