Florida head football coach Urban Meyer checked himself into Shands Hospital in Gainesville early Sunday morning to check out symptoms that later were diagnosed as dehydration. The Florida coach was released and was home Sunday resting.
Gator Country.com reported earlier that Meyer had experienced chest pains following the Gators return to Gainesville following a 32-13 loss to Alabama Saturday evening. Some of the signs that you are suffering from dehydration are an increased heart rate, a racing pulse or chest pain, any of which is what Meyer probably was experiencing.
Meyer's usual Sunday morning television show was canceled as the head coach received treatment.
Meyer, 45, is in his fifth season as Floridaās head coach and has led the Gators to two Southeastern Conference titles and the BCS National Championships in 2006 and 2008. The top-ranked Gators were seeking a third SEC title Saturday when they played No. 2 Alabama, which ended Floridaās 22-game winning streak, the longest in the nation and in school history.
The loss means the 12-1 Gators will likely play in the Allstate Sugar Bowl in the Superdome at New Orleans on Jan. 1, 2010 at 8:30 p.m. Their opponent is speculated to be unbeaten Cincinnati, the Big East Conference champion which is 13-0 following a 45-44 victory at Pittsburgh.
That victory by the Crimson Tide likely sends Alabama to the Citi National Championship Game in the Rose Bowl at Pasadena, Calif., on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010 against most likely Texas, which escaped with a 13-12 victory over Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship Game.
