Ya know, been awhile since I've had an original Coors.

FWIW, I saw those at Wind Down at Westedge...just down the street from the downtown Marriott. Thursday nights if you're in town that day from 5-8...pretty good acoustical music (cover band.)

I have a buddy, former military, who usually drinks Coors Light - "the official beer of special forces" - because you know if you get activated you'll be sober in an hour.

I used to get down there for work and, on occasion, for the Food and Wine Festival. Made it there this year, pleasantly surprised at how much craft beer was there. Drank zero wine.

Did you try Holy City? I went to Indigo Reef's a few weeks ago after having one of their beers at Smash City Burgers (Summerville.) A hell of a hamburger!!! The guy that owns it started at another brewery: SNAFU's.

I rarely eat at fast food places and it's fortunate for people here to have so many different places to try. I try not to repeat places and if I'm lucky won't for a calendar year or more. That's eating out at least once a week.

"It's raining. Cancel your downtown dinner reservations." A cliche that makes sense here. Hell, people have two routes if they're working or eating downtown: raining or sunny. Literally, when curious about the weather it's a three step process: step outside and look, check the weather app, and check the tide.

It's funny, really, being a commonplace thing to see people in shorts, t-shirts, flip flops, and carrying an umbrella.

Yes, we set up camp at Holy City following the festival. I had a number of their IPAs, kept changing the name everytime I ordered another Overly Friendly, Unusually Curious, Unknowingly Abrasive, etc.

On that note ...

This week I saw two 1911's, both hand made. One of them was gold plated and appraised at 15K. When he had the other appraised it came back with one "ding," if you will. It was missing one small bolt, so to speak. He said he'd taken the piece out to make it fully automatic.

He's truly a gun nut. A few years ago he was pulled over for speeding and they found 18 in his car. He said he was going to the range and I believe him. I don't believe he was going to fire all 18. Eight or nine of the pieces weren't registered and came from all over the world: Russian made AK's and the like. It took him a while, and a lot of money, to get out of that one. What's ironic is he's probably one of the most placid guys I've ever met.

At that cost per round I'd almost consider a road trip.

My wife came down for a business meeting several years ago, stayed downtown, very lucky we were in her Tahoe and not my high mileage Camry. Wouldn't have made it my planned route.

My best friend bought his wife a new ride two years ago and purposefully went with a smaller SUV (CRV) for that exact reason. At the time her office (you may be familiar with Rodgers and Brown) was just off of East Bay across from the cruise ship docks.

As you know, I don't go downtown when it's raining/storming especially when it's high tide. One of the last times you were here you said it didn't end up too bad ... I didn't meet with you that evening for that reason. The rain brings out the stupid in people as it is and combine that with the flooding? I learned that lesson long ago.

I still hate being asked "where are you from" every time I eat downtown.

FWIW, the peninsula has about a half of a dozen craft breweries now.
