National championship-winning quarterback and SEC Network analyst Greg McElroy will join the desk of SEC Nation, the network’s traveling pregame show, this fall. The former Alabama Crimson Tide and Jets quarterback had been a college football studio analyst for the network over the past year, contributing half-time and post-game analysis for SEC Network’s football games throughout the 2014 season.

ā€œGreg impressed us in studio last year with his passion for the conference and his knowledge of the gameā€ said Stephanie Druley, ESPN senior vice president. ā€œHe brings a wealth of X&O’s acumen, and deep knowledge of the history and traditions of the conference, to the analyst role."

SEC Nation returns for its second season Saturday, Sept. 5, with host Joe Tessitore, first-round draft pick and second-year analyst Marcus Spears, outspoken radio host Paul Finebaum, reporter Kaylee Hartung and McElroy. The two-hour show occupies the same timeslot as last year, airing every Saturday at 10 a.m. ET, live from a different Southeastern Conference campus. SEC Nation’s first stop will be announced next week.

I really like GMAC as a player/leader/Tider...

But on air he bugs me. Seems robotic IMO. He is very professional which is great... Just seems to lack a quality that makes him fun and/or intriguing to listen to

I may be wrong, but I think Herbstreit was a little the same way his first couple years.

As he gets more comfortable, his collar should loosen a bit. He'll have no choice, but being live on a pregame show that's similar to "Gameday" should loosen him right up.

He succumbed to the standard voice training, that straining monotone that sportscasters ridiculously adopt. I greatly prefer a regular voice over the "announcer" voice.

The only thing that bugs me is him trashing players. He'll sit there and use pretty harsh adjectives to trash an 18-20 year old.

I also think he tries extra hard to detach himself as an Alabams fan for an unbiased look to other viewers. Could be good for him, but it makes him look weak on my eyes when you see him reach for negativity about the program.

Very intelligent guy and will undoubtedly be top tier successful in the industry.

He is harsh sometimes. I think it has to do with his relative youth and the fact that he isn't that far removed from actually playing the game. It is a common trait among successful QB's who become analysts (with a few notable exceptions) to be very critical.

As far as his perceived attitude towards Alabama I think he does go a little too far over the line but I will take that all day over the homerism of a Galloway or Kanell

I don't have a problem with McElroy's attempt at separating himself from Alabama the alumni/former football player and the objective analyst. Does he go overboard with it at times? Yep, he does. But we all pretty much know why he's doing it. It's not to trash Bama or diss a player. But rather to ensure he's doing his job as an unbiased analyst. I think with time he'll polish his "game" and be a lot like Herbstreit. But he's still young and relatively new to the sportscaster job. I'd much rather him be how he is than Kanell or Galloway who make me sick and if I'm Fla St fans or Ohio St fans I would be embarrassed. Their homerism is over the top obvious.

He is trying to make sure they don't label him as a "homer". He bleeds crimson through and through...give him a few years ..he is setting himself up for the long play
