Here goes...

I happened to have a friend in the radio industry—sports specifically—that has a college football preview show on Saturday's leading into ESPN's coverage.

His question today was why I thought Bama would win today...

It's really one reason...but multiple parts to this reason...and Sandra...it's why I am not nervous about tonight's game.

Florida will not be able to handle the pressure: both with the crowd and the team. But, it's the later I want to focus on.

Shaun bringing out the game ball.
Coach Stallings being honored for his induction into the college football hall of fame.
It's Florida...against @90K Bama fans. (Yes, I know the seating but Florida will bring their fans)

Anyway...changing direction a tad...

When I got off the phone on his radio show listened for a few minutes to see what direction the content went.

His comment cracked me up. When he referred back to Bama he brought up the 102K capacity...and said, "Hey, Alabama is the ONLY school that had the expand their stadium because they couldn't hold the crowd for spring game."

From practices on Thursday and Friday...

Both days, and specifically including Friday's walk-thru's, had a few added ingredients.

One, we've seen already. The "Bobcat" (as Maze calls it) has been practiced with quite a bit.

Play action passes, with a two back set, has been worked on as well.

Do we see these packages this weekend? Better question is "will we need these packages this weekend?"

Ha, that's pretty funny about the spring game. I'm very intrigued by these new looks like the two you mentioned. When you say two back set, am I dreaming or do you mean a two back set with both Ingram and Richardson?

Play action, two back set. Do the math Core...it's a combination of several players. Heck, think a Lacey and Richardson backfield...there's a lot of possibilities.

Thanks for the post Terry. Speeking of the spring game we really need to pack BDS this spring to regain the record. When time comes expect a big push to get the fans there.

Terry, no fear I'll worry enough for me and you and a lot more as well.

But let me ask, why are we practicing such packages? I'd like to see nothing but Ingram and Richardson all night long. In practicing those ideas is our staff concerned the Gator's Heavy D will shut down our basic power combo of Ingram/Richardson? Or do they feel they have to mix it up to keep the D on their toes?

I just don't know about all that funky stuff. Florida is the team that will supposedly throw caution to the wind. Why should we have to? Am I reading too much into this?

Many people feel that we got too fancy in the 1st half last week vs. Arkansas. We played Alabama football in the 2nd half and got back into and won the game. Again, why does the stuff you referenced make you feel better about tonight?

Who thinks we got too fancy in the 1st half? We were too vanilla on defense and the only problem we had on offense was the two turnovers (one of which the receiver was wide open and had it been lobbed up it prolly woulda been 6).

We've ran out of the Bobcat (with Maze) a few times this year so thats not new just he said we're practicing it more. Putting Richardson/Ingram on the field together and having more play action with that package isnt fancy at all. They say they're gonna stack the box on us, okay so we give em a ton of play action. That's needed. If G-Mac starts destroying their secondary then they have to stop stacking the box and then that opens up the run for T-Rich & Ingy.

I'd take the 08 OLine all day everyday over this one. This year's line is still good though.

./reply/output post:

It is the observation of the MCP that this OL is significantly deeper and more talented than the 2008 unit. The work ethic and strength/conditioning are also superior. Remember what Utah did to the 2008 line with 2 starters absent. If the 2010 line had 2 starters out, they would fare significantly better against the Ute DL from 2008 than the 2008 line did. There is really no comparison between 2008 and now. Top to bottom, this may be the best OL in that Alabama has ever fielded.

End of Line...

With the extra packages added, it gives opposing defenses more to prepare for. Knowing this, it opens up the Bama O for more of what has not been done since the opposing D is looking for what has been seen on tape. For example, I believe this is the first time this season Bama has passed out of a form of the wildcat. UF wasn't prepared for that, they were looking for Maze to either run or hand the ball off leaving Williams wide open.
