🏈 maybe it's a touchy topic but the McClain...

Like I said in another thread, he certainly should have been ejected from the game, but that is the ref's call & he chose not to eject him. He certainly didn't strike the ref & if you think he did, I sure hope you never leave the house!

Hopefully Ro will be punished somewhat severely in Monday's practice & will have forgotten about it by Tuesday's.

Geez, some people overreact!

First RC took a cheap shot to the back (couldnt see the hands on the VT player-so dont know about the ball shot). And he retaliated which was his mistake. You know the refs are gonna catch the second person.

Second -when the ref was seperating and pushing him away he pushed the refs hands down. He didnt punch, he didnt shove, and he didnt do anything any normal person wouldnt do if they were in the same boat.

Ejection would have been over board. Im sure the SEC refs also gave RM some slack knowing who he is and its not in his poersonality.

I'm not specifically calling you out, just using that phrase to make a point.

It's a false statement to say Ro doesn't over react in situations. He has a history of it, not on the field, but never-the-less a bonafide history of doing so.

i guess you're implying that i'm a pansy??? this thread is not about me. it is true that it's the refs call as to whether to eject a player from the game, but the head coach also has the power to bench your hind end on the pine if you're unsportsmanlike.

this is the last thing i will say about this topic as i don't wish to troll or offend people. how we treat each other as human beings is more important that the football game itself. people get hurt in football games because of the nature of the sport. hitting someone intentionally after the whistle blows is not a part of the sport. that is a part of your sorry attitude. that has no place on a crimson tide football team now. it didn't in the past. and i hope to the good Lord it doesn't in the future. if the player that did this was on another team, most of the :nopity:sympathizers in this thread would certainly be saying that a benching at minimum was in order.

Roll Tide.

Soooo, bench him & punish the rest of the team as well as opposed to punishing only the player who did wrong? Good reasoning. Nah, it isn't.

How is it that people can't understand there are other, better ways to punish a football player than punishing him & the rest of the team by putting him on the bench. In my 15 years of playing football I've seen PLENTY of guy who would have MUCH rather sat out a game than go through the REAL punishment they were going through. Including myself.

I'll give Bama fans this much....some of them overreact to little things.

Bench him for the game and suspend him? That's classic overreaction. If the ref didn't see fit to kick him out of the game then let's take the penalty and move on.

Ro was in the wrong and he was penalized for that wrong. Move on.

We won and now to next week.

Cory

The ref should have ejected him. You cant put your hands on a ref PERIOD.

If this were the other team most of peps on here would be screaming about a classless thug. blah blah:fight:

Just using this to make a point although I am still undecided as to whether he should have been pulled or not. However the answer to your hypothetical question is an overwhelming YES you pull him and punish the rest of the team. When someone makes a selfish decision the last thing that is going to be a deterrent to them in the future is an individual repercussion.

This IS a team and they are being trained to work like it. Do you really think Ro would be more worried about running sprints vs. what his team mates would have felt like if he put them in a bad position and affected them all?

I think Coach Saban will handle it his way.

I agree. That is probably the best. The Ref himself didn't deem it an offense worthy of ejection from the game. We don't know all the details, but if I was to make an assumption here, it would be that the VT player was either trash talking or (more likely) playing dirty away from the Refs. It could very well be that the Ref realized the VT player was using some dirty tactics and had some measure of sympathy for Rolando's frustration.

The Ref was RIGHT there and NOBODY can make the call about ejection better than him in this case.

Coach Saban is a great disciplinarian and will probably handle this in a way that best suits Rolando and the punishment relative to the process in terms of making sure the team is in the best position to win. A'ight?

He didn't strike a ref. The papers said he bumped a ref. If he had struck a ref he would have been ejected period. This was totally out of character for McClain and I'm sure that Saban will get the point across that this will not be tolerated !!!!:bolt:No side stepping !!!!

Hmmm, I've yet to see it. It wasn't shown at the Dome and not on my replay either.:headscratch:

We never the replay at the dome either but we DVR'd it so we watched it last night when we got home and saw the incident.

It seemed to me like RM was getting moved by the refs and while they were pushing him out of the way he tried to push one of their arms off of him with his harm. HE DID NOT STRIKE OR PUSH A REF, he was just being moved by the ref and trying to free himself.

This is football and were asking these kids to be very physical out on the field, RM acted fine in my book with the REFs handling him. The penalties on the field are punishment enough.

I was ranting about this until a friend who's normally wrong about everything made an abnormally good point - the refs know EXACTLY what was going on, what was being said, etc and they - THEY - chose not to eject him. If the ref didn't think it was necessary to throw him out, I have a hard time second-guessing him.

My .02.

I agree,

Just want to point out that the "injured party" was a big ole lineman that was downfield...so..what is a big lineman doing that far downfield?? headhunting comes to mind...and maybe a little taunting...possibly a flop??
This doesn't mean that I don't see some punishment for Ro but if the refs who were right there on the scene didn't eject him, let's let the coaches decide the punishment and we can move on.

we're all human we all make mistakes....emotions get the best of all of us....it is what it is....so just leave it at that and lets move on from that game to the next game:td:
