šŸˆ May be some more history made tonight.

Man, how awesome would that be.

All season, last year, I was pretty negative heading into the games. I guess a decade of overall disappointment will do that to a 33 year old Alabama fan.

I was consistently surprised last year and had SO much fun with it. I hope that our 800th win will happen tonight and be a herald of another good season.

I still have nagging negativity but I am also a nervous basketcase before games.

Roll Tide.

The media will recognize us for it even if the NCAA doesnt. Public perception is greatly influenced by them, so its just as good.

And then if we get the wins back itll be "official"

I don't put much stock in caring if the NCAA makes anything "offical." The teams played the games and they won the games. What some political group tries to interject into the mix really doesn't matter, well, to me anyway. The NCAA can .....well, you know.:nana:

There was some history made at the first Alabama game I ever attended some 36 years ago. Incidentally, the opponent was Virginia Tech.

Alabama 77, Tech 6

Oct. 27, 1973 Tuscaloosa, Ala.

THE GAME

Coach Bear Bryant’s team gains more yards of total offense (828) in one game than any other major-college team in history. The second-ranked Crimson Tide also breaks the NCAA single-game mark for rushing (743 yards). The Tide uses 64 players by halftime. Tech does not make a first down until the fourth quarter. Four Tide players each rush for at least 100 yards.

Big names

Alabama’s Richard Todd and Wilbur Jackson; Tech’s Eddie Joyce, Ricky Scales and Phil Rogers.

Bill Brill wrote
ā€œWhen it became obvious that Alabama would threaten both national records, Bryant said [on the sideline], 'If we get the record, it will be with the third string.’ Actually, it was a combination of the third and fourth teams. … The way Tech plays defense, the secretaries could have scored. … Tech has nothing to be proud of, except that nobody got killed.ā€

Quotable
ā€œI’m really embarrassed over the score,ā€ Bryant says.

Postscript
Charlie Coffey’s Hokies finish 2-9. Alabama goes 11-1, winning a share of the national title.
Here are some brief summaries of other games between the two schools:

Unfortunately, it does matter what the NCAA thinks. What they decide is what others report. If the NCAA says that 'Bama has 700 something wins and not 800, that is what everyone else says and prints and uses for statistics.

What a few may not know is that Alabama is already over 800 wins if not for the ones taken back in the 90's. How many was it? About 8?

So, actually, this whole thread is off a bit because Alabama is already over 800 if everyone would only not pay attention to the NCAA subtracted wins that were taken years ago.

Not necessarily. They talk about Stallings tenure in terms of 70 something wins over a seven year period and don't talk about those forfeits.
