New Orleans Saints running backMark Ingram had a fiery, helmet-slamming outburst on the sideline Sunday, and later appeared to decline a post-touchdown handshake from coach Sean Payton.

Ingram scored two touchdowns in the Saints' 37-34 overtime loss to the Atlanta Falcons. He left the locker room before reporters could approach him to ask for comment.

Payton said after the game that he was unaware of any sideline outburst by Ingram.

Early in the third quarter, Ingram was seen on the sideline yelling and slamming his helmet. Tight end Ben Watson attempted to calm him down. Ingram spent several minutes alone on the sideline, pacing.

Later, after scoring the first of his touchdowns, Ingram appeared to ignore Payton when Payton extended his hand to congratulate him. After his second touchdown, however, the rift seemed repaired as Ingram acknowledged Payton's congratulations and slapped him on the shoulder.

"Mark is passionate. He's a passionate guy," said Saints running back Pierre Thomas. "You saw that in college. You've seen that since he's been in the league. I don't know what the issue was. I didn't get involved. I w
asn't going to let it throw off my game."

Ingram finished with 13 carries for 60 yards. His 19-yard run in the fourth quarter was probably his most physical, and it set up his 3-yard touchdown run a play later.

Ingram gave the Saints the lead with just 80 seconds left in the game when he plowed through a defender into the end zone from 3 yards out.

Ingram only rushed for one touchdown in 2013. With two through one game in 2014, Ingram has 13 rushing touchdowns in his career.

"He came around and scored two touchdowns and that's something we needed," Thomas said. "He felt good after (the sideline episode). I'm just glad he came around quickly like he did."

I was proud of Ingram but thank God ATL won lol Julio had a terrific game too. I would imagine Ingram's outburst had something to do with the thing that has frustrated him his entire NFL career. Everytime he starts to get rolling they put in another back. On both drives that Ingram scored a TD he got them down to the goal line and then the Saints pulled him for another back. That back danced around and lost yardage and then Ingram came back in and scored the TDs. Another thing was there was at least one drive where he was really rolling and then they got inside the 30 and threw three straight in completions and had to settle for a field goal. As great of an offensive mind as Payton has he just doesnt seem to be able to know how to use a pounding running back effectively enough.

If I was Ingram, I would curse the fates for being own such a pass happy team .. He would be so much better utilized on a team with a more balanced attack, or a run heavy attack. It must be frustrating to know you have the talent and skill, but not the means to show it.

Julio is gonna have a sick year.

Yeah but hes gonna make himself alot of money if they actually use him this year, plus hes got a ton of tread left on the tire because he has barely had more than 100 carries in any of his seasons so far. Its just sad to see what has become of Trent Richardson, I dont know whats wrong with him but its almost like he has forgotten how to run or just doesnt care anymore.
