That is definitely not good news for our Texas Longhorn faithful. I've just checked some of our boards. Its not pretty. We, Longhorn fans and alumni, have waited so patiently for change. And we thought we were really close. It's still not over yet, but this is not a good development for us. I think, however, that Alabama fans should be happy with this news.
This goes back to what I was saying earlier. It was definitely true that Mack was on the way out. It wasn't just Chip Brown from Orangeblood who cited high-level sources indicate that Mack was on the way out. This was a poorly kept secret. Something must have happened to change things. I think that this leads credence to the backstory of the contract breach that I spoke of, and the purported behind-the-scenes negotiating with Mack Brown's agent, Joe Jamail. Not a good night for Longhorn fans.
I don't know if I can agree with this. How can one say "it was definitely true that Mack was on his way out" when the majority of the BOR and the school president were behind him?
It is a bit of a shock to me he's still employed. As mentioned earlier I understand how TX fans are frustrated: 18-17 in conference play would have me livid as well. Heck, we had conversations here about three and a half, maybe four months ago, where the majority here thought it would take a Big12 title for him to be retained. Not that he'd still be wanted, but could you fire a guy fresh off of a conference title?
FWIW, the debate here has never been about Mack's future. It's been about how many times a load of crap has been fed to your fan base and sadly not only was it eaten, but a lot chose to put garnish on the dish.
Just flipping through the channels a bit and sure enough I heard it suggested TX should now pursue Gruden. Damn...for your sake, don't buy in.
