🏈 Mac is not FBS material

He almost reminded me of the nightmare that was Brandon Avalos... does anybody remember him...
Instead of recruiting these kind of qbs it would be better for Bama to recruit Coker like 3 star who is not afraid to take hits

wish we had won the gardner minshew lottery

Looks like you are the only BAMA fan on the board that thinks CNS made a mistake on Mac. Maybe you could be a recruiting coordinator for Coach MalZahn.

If I remember, Avalos didn't have a pass attempt in his lone start, I think against Southern Miss. I'm not going to go back to check.
That would have been in '03 when BA played against USM. There were less than 10 passes--and I'm pretty sure @jdpas29 is right with seven attempts--but he did complete a few of them.

I remember the three games BA played in largely due to the amount of flak he was getting on TI. Very few, and it's still a small number, knew that they were ragging on Rodney's kid, on Rodney's board.

Yep 3 for 7 for 12 yards with 1 INT. Those are Jay Barker NC numbers right there...

3-for-7, 12 yards, 1 interception. Shaud Williams 170 yards, 2 TD and Ray Hudson nearly had 100.

Nope Barker had like 57 yards in NC game. But did fantastic the following year. Go and watch us play Georgia that year. I have VHS of that.

@gc90, Smith and Oliver for coordinators that season.

Side note: That was the first year Will Friend got a start on the OL as I recall...went onto coach at UAB, UGA, CSU, and now at UT. Pruitt came into the program in '95 as I recall...sort of funny Friend is now working for him.

No, Jay was 4 for 13 for 18 yards with 2 INT in the NC game. I had the good fortune of spending about 15 minutes talking with Coach Stallings about 12-14 years ago. He was early for a speaking engagement and I had finished a presentation, the event was still going on, and there were just a handful of us standing around in a lobby at the Grand Hotel when he walked in. He started talking about the imperative of a strong defense and running game, and asked us as a group, "What was Jay's passing stats against Miami?" I said, Coach I can't remember exactly, but it was something like 4 for 12 for about 20 yards with a couple of picks. He punched me on the arm and said, "That's about right, but we could run the ball and play defense!"

Jay Barker his sophomore year wasn't asked to do much through the air and he never disappointed. Looking back, it was really a miracle we won the natty vs Miami. I still marvel at the way we did it. I mean, a stout running game, defense, and the threat of David Palmer lining up somewhere. Overcoming the 2 interceptions was amazing against that team. Brother Oliver was really the reason for the season in that one. The attacks by the defense at the beginning of the 3rd quarter and those 2 scores were the best things that could have happened for us in the game. Our DBs were just wonderful all night and they matched up perfectly against the high flying Hurricanes.

I think Alabama never repeated the 92 success because we never developed the ability to make life easy for our defense. I think that flaw made Steve Spurrier look like a genius in the SEC when he was far from that.

My favorite part was when Miami came out and literally every single Alabama player was on the line and Toretta about had a meltdown.
