🏈 Mac is not FBS material

That was certainly a factor. With Mac you invert the plan and do what Bama has done pretty much every year since 2007. Run first, pass when you have to. Especially against citadel. Lol. Tua needs rest and rehab quite obviously.

It’s a whole different offensive mind set when he comes into the game. Different plays are called, mostly runs for his play set and to run the clock. He is not in the game to throw the ball all over the field but they will throw some to keep the defense honest. I will say he has gotten more reps probably than any 3rd string QB in the country.

What's weird to me is there seems to be a focus on read option, speed option, etc. type stuff with Mac in the game. Why? Was he known as a dual threat coming out of high school? I thought he was a pocket passer.

@BamaBoyJosh I am not sure what kind of QB he was coming out of high school. Maybe one our the other guys can help us out.

I believe Mack was committed to Kentucky before Nick and staff turned him toward Bama. Again Mack was filler for the QB spots at Bama. You need 5 QB's on the roster in order to complete practices. Trying to keep 5 (scholly QB's) isn't that easy these days and that was why Nick and staff were out beating the bushes for a grad transfer this past spring/summer. What a great job Mike Leach has done with Gardner Minshew at WSU. The kid made the right call to give Mike a chance. Georgia Tech should try to hire Mike this year.

He almost reminded me of the nightmare that was Brandon Avalos... does anybody remember him...
Instead of recruiting these kind of qbs it would be better for Bama to recruit Coker like 3 star who is not afraid to take hits

wish we had won the gardner minshew lottery

If I remember, Avalos didn't have a pass attempt in his lone start, I think against Southern Miss. I'm not going to go back to check. However, any comparison of Mac to Avalos - good grief - I'm just going to chalk it up to a bad memory.

Mac will be in the record books as long as Tua, by the way, with the second longest pass completion in Alabama history:

So in the second half how did he look any different than Tua. I thought the play calling was pitiful and didn't give them much of a chance to do anything with the way the oline was getting dogged out. The execution on the screen passes were terrible by all other 10 players on the field.

They should have moved the pocket around for Mac to change his launch point from the middle of the pocket to keep the dline gueussing where the point of attack was.

Once the oline got some cohesiveness in pushing State off the ball a little on the last two drives we started getting a little rythem back.

fourth quarter with a 24 point lead our line has got to learn how to finishe the game and ground and pound for a few first downs.

All Mac should have had to do was turn around and hand it to 34, 22,and 8.

Mac did what he needed to do to win the game. That goal was to burn up the remainder of the clock. I thought the kid did pretty good, considering the poor blocking of our offensive line. Don't understand that group. At times, they play lights out. Then, they collapse and let everybody but the kitchen sink through to the quarterback. I believe we had an injury that probably had some effect, but Mac was running for his life his entire playing time, just like Tua was, before he was relieved.

i was at the game where Avalos played against southern miss. rained the whole time pretty much. i want to say that was maybe the last game at Legion field. I could be wrong. anyway.. i think there were 7 pass attempts for the game. lol. they pretty much all looked terrible. And a far cry from the skillset and size of Mac Jones.

Looks like you are the only BAMA fan on the board that thinks CNS made a mistake on Mac. Maybe you could be a recruiting coordinator for Coach.

BTW Saban was just asked if he would rest Tua against the Citadel. He reacted quite strongly saying, "why would we do that?" Said the line needed to protect him better and he needed to step into pocket better but he will go against the Citadel.

That would have been in '03 when BA played against USM. There were less than 10 passes--and I'm pretty sure @jdpas29 is right with seven attempts--but he did complete a few of them.

I remember the three games BA played in largely due to the amount of flak he was getting on TI. Very few, and it's still a small number, knew that they were ragging on Rodney's kid, on Rodney's board.

The Mac attack needs to settle down and find some success, get his confidence and everything will be fine. It takes a while for kids to come into their own and the light to go off. We wait patiently for our LBers and DLmen to figure it out but expect a lot more for the trigger pullers. Blake Barnett is throwing the crap out of the ball at UCF. Took time.
