That tournament we are going to in Kansas City will be a tester.

Wichita State will be an environment as tough as any in the SEC. At Xavier will be difficult as well. UCLA at home with the students on Christmas break will not be easy, though our fans have come out pretty well for attractive non conference games in this period. USF will be a tester as well. If we go 7-6 pre conference there will be a lot of upset fans, including me. This schedule is different from last year's in that there are seven games we can "pencil in" as a W. The other six will measure us as far as how we have improved compared to a year ago. Last year we played just well enough against good opponents to not be embarrassed by the loss. I am tired of that. Time to step up, guys.

Tired of moral victories, eh?

It is one thing for an outmanned team to play its heart out against a superior foe and lose. it is quite another for an experienced team with some talent to play well until what the late Al McGuire called 'winning time' and then not do what you need to do to win. Releford was truly a warrior, but our good opponents realized this, and took him away. The others seemed too timid to try to win.

Yes, I am tired of moral victories.
