Does LSU fire Miles before next season?

Why are you saying that? An assumption, or something you've seen someone break down in detail?

Based on their financial history I believe they can be that liquid IF they had to pay a lump sum: don't know that they do.

If they haven't been getting into tax payers money, they've been making money ... I just don't see what leads people to think the Athletic Dept., and TAF, can't come up with that money.
Not that they can't come up with the money, just that it's more than just the head coaches salary... other people are involved... which is what bring the total higher.

If you want to fire the coaches and only pay the HC his buyout, then cool.... but be prepared to defend why you aren't paying the coaches.

Buyouts usually aren't paid in a lump sum. The paychecks just keep coming until the term of the contract expires. As for taxpayer money, I think that boosters are paying the bill. Of course, when you get money from here, and get money from there, it's difficult to say where the actual dollars come from. Needless to say, I'm sure that boosters will step up and pay the buyout if they can get a "better" coach.

Les Miles' tenure at LSU may be over; buyout not an issue, source says

Les Miles' tenure at LSU may be coming to an end, according to a highly ranked source involved with the decision-making process.

A decision on his future is likely to come in the very near future, perhaps in the next two weeks, with many members of the football program's powerful booster club, the Tiger Athletic Foundation (TAF), ready to cut ties with Miles and start a new era in Baton Rouge.

LSU's ugly 38-17 loss to Ole Miss on Saturday night in Oxford, Miss., only fueled the momentum behind the scenes.

The source said Miles' future at LSU is not tied to the outcome of the Tigers' game against Texas A&M on Saturday at Tiger Stadium. "It will have no bearing on what we do with him", the source said.

The $15 million dollar buyout clause in Miles' contract will not be a hindrance for TAF, the athletic program's powerful booster club that funds a lot of the athletic programs for LSU, according to the source. "The money is there", the source said.

To that end, representatives of the football program have begun to vet potential replacements for Miles through back channels, the source said, with a preference for an established head coach. Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher is the main target for many foundation members, the source said. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney, TCU head coach Gary Patterson and even former NFL coach Jon Gruden have also been mentioned as candidates.

Support of Miles among TAF members had been split for some time. Many senior members disagreed with the extension given to him two years ago. But LSU's three-game losing streak, the school's first by consecutive double-digit margins since 1966, has weakened the allegiance of many of Miles' most ardent supporters. The vast majority now believes it is time to cut ties with Miles and hire a new head coach before the program loses any more momentum.

Miles met privately with athletic department officials last week to discuss his future, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Potential termination options and strategies were discussed, including the possibility of Miles' retiring after the 2016 season.

Some TAF members prefer to pull the trigger now, citing the potential corrosive effects a lame-duck coach could have on recruiting, staff procurement and organizational momentum. Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron's contract expires after this season.

In the wake of drastic budget cuts at the university earlier this year, the public perception of a buyout of Miles' contract is a concern for TAF, although the money would be raised privately and would not affect other programs.

The school's finances are a dumpster fire. Alabama has sidestepped many of the issues with declining State support through their growth in out-of-state students, who typically pay roughly two and one-half times the in-state rate. Many other factors, including great decisions and management, but that's a big one.

He's not going anywhere. I don't believe they fire him.

If they fire him they're stupid. He's 110-32 in 11 years!!

They're main target is Jimbo, who's to say he leaves FSU? Plus his teams at FSU have had discipline and favoritism problems since he arrived. Dabo? He's fine unless his team faces adversity. Gary at TCU? His teams have shown that they're good for most of the year, but his teams end up faltering.

Les and the SEC
2011: 8-0
2012: 6-2
2013: 5-3
2014: 4-4
2015: 4-3 (So far)

Chavis' departure hastened the defensive slide to match what had been a slow degradation on the offensive side. Since the NC game, they have been on a slow slide. I don't think he recovers, but I'd much rather him stay another year or two for them to deteriorate further. I think they beat AtM on Fournette - he should run wild. I want an outcome that preserves Sumlin AND Miles to preserve the slow decline of both programs.

Well, a lot of folks down there seem to think it's going to happen. This thing seems to be gaining momentum. Then again it could be the same source rehashed and hyper sensationalized...I guess we'll find out possibly very soon...

Movement on Miles’ job situation could be coming soon

and this one...

"As for the reasoning behind the firing, if it indeed occurs, Nick Saban’s immense success at Alabama is probably a major factor. LSU has been Bama’s little brother since Saban took the helm at Tuscaloosa in 2007, even losing to them in the 2012 BCS National Championship Game. In today’s intense recruiting climate, that has surely been a black mark against Miles’ name on the recruiting trail during the past few years, and a lack of success on the field will definitely not help to amend that."

From that article:

Sunday may have been the calm before the storm.

“It is pretty quiet today,” said an LSU assistant football coach via text on Sunday afternoon.

LSU head coach Les Miles remained in that position as of Sunday night with his weekly press luncheon scheduled for noon Monday.
That strikes me as odd. An assistant, talking about the job security/future of his boss?

List your top 5 sec coaches. Les would be in mine.

LSU is always competitive. No way they get rid of him.

Also, I can't imagine FSU not putting up enough $ for jimbo to stay.

Once a fan base's team reaches the mountain top, or even gets close, they begin to expect it. demand it, cry for it. Cutcliffe at Ole Miss was a good example. Post-Manning (Eli) they lagged and Cutcliffe leaves. As someone put it, "they forgot they were Ole Miss". LSU's resurgence was due to Saban, period, and Miles has done a great job to maintain it. Between Dietzel's last year in 1961 and Saban's first year in 2000, how many 10-win seasons did LSU have in that 38 years? TWO, one each under Mike Archer and Dinardo. I'm not going to check, but that's probably below average for the conference, certainly below Alabama's 19 or so during that time.

RTR,

Tim

He was sure somber after that loss Saturday night.

Look at some of the coaches the SEC has lost the past, 4-5 years. Urban, Chizek, Muschamp, Spurrier, Franklin, Petrino, to name a few. Some pretty decent coaches and big names in there as well as 4 NC's among them. Will Richt and Miles join this crew?
