🏈 Lou Holtz's family announces his passing. He was 89.

Hate to see this. Obviously it was coming since they announced he was in hospice, but it still sucks. As I’ve said before, I’m a firm believer that CFB needs characters. And he fit in perfectly. Losing guys like him and Mike Leach… they can’t be replaced. Obviously great coaches but also guys that added something extra to CFB overall, rare breeds. Here’s a note Holtz wrote my dad about 45 years ago in one of his books... taking a friendly jab at a mutual friend in the process…

Love him or hate him, he was certainly a character that everybody knew, admired, and respected.

Coach had tremendous respect for the players, the team, and the game. I know someone is worthy of respect when John Maxwell quotes him. Funny tidbit he's the last coach at ND to win a championship.

I liked the judge and attorney shtick that college football fina show they did where they would dress up. Entertaining content, in my eyes.

Take a second to reflect on the career to date that Rece has had, and all the giants he’s worked with. Impressive. Still going strong.

Truly one of the great characters in football. CLH was a solid example during his coaching career but more importantly in life. May his family have peace and comfort during this time of his passing.

He lived a full life at 89 but will miss his "take" on football and just everyday life. He was part of, in retrospect, the Golden Age of college football.

My first recollection of Holtz was as Arkansas coach playing Alabama for the 1979 national championship. I was reading about this innovative coach and it had me worried about the game. Then the game started.
