I love that helmet!!! As to what do I think would happen if the Bama was real? We're talking about a fan base that is still stuck on Bear Bryant and that hate change when it comes to uniforms, so some of them would freak out!

You love sticking your neck out there on some things, don't ya Stomp!

FWIW, if the numbers on the helmets and the coach that introduced that addition to the uniform had ANYTHING to do with each other we wouldn't have had numbers on our helmets for over 60 years.

And, just to put a time frame on this for you. Facemasks were added the year before the numbers on the helmets.

And, that's an ugly 'effin helmet. That's the forum rules. Abide by them. :stick:

I wasn't saying facemasks, numbers, our uniforms, or Bryant had anything to do with one another. My point was most fans if you added a stripe to the current uniform would freak out. As a fan base for the most part people are still HUGE on Bryant and so, that should be telling how well the fan base would take that particular helmet or anything change at all to the uniform. As a fanbase change isn't welcomed as in changing uniforms or the video played before games or what have you.

I wasn't meaning anything bad about what I was saying or meaning to come off as rude although after reading my last post I can see where it appears I'm being rude.

I just thought that was one ugly helmet and the fact that they actually used the word "perfection" to describe it made me laugh a little.

And I didn't think you were being rude stomp.

I was being an ass and just messing with him. As long as you guys have been around here, I expected that to be a known fact when you click on these forums.

That's one 'effin ugly helmet, btw.

Uh, yeah you did. In my experience, when things are included in the same sentence they tend to have something to do with each other.

A couple of thoughts...

I wonder how old you are. Not that age is a judge on how you feel about Bama football, but it is an indicator on the era you grew up in and things you've heard along the way. I see younger fans saying things about the Tide and events twenty years ago that HAVE NO CLUE what they are talking about. They've read opinions from others and assumed them as facts.

A strip on a uniform isn't going to make this fan base upset. We've seen small changes here and there throughout the years in our uniforms.

A BS helmet like that? It makes no sense. Sure, we don't like it from a traditional standpoint. (that's goes back to your age, FWIW.) What you have to understand, from a business standpoint, is what we have now is our brand. That's the most important thing when it comes to memorabilia sales: the recognition of a brand.

Some teams look for gimmicks, like those, to create attention to their brand.

We don't need it.

And, by the way.

That helmet is 'effin ugly.

I like the traditional look, but I'll admit I like that helmet, hell I like a few of them.

like the special jerseys we've done in the recent past, I'd be ok with them using that helmet for a big game or two.

I have no desire to be Oregon and have a bazillion uniform combo's.

I wouldn't mind some variation to our uniforms either, but I am a fan of the traditional. I would love to see the white helmet with crimson stripe/numbers. I think if they changed the white stripe and numbers to a houndstooth pattern, that it could look alright. I want to keep the numbers on the sides of the helmet though. Our helmets don't really have a big logo, but everyone knows who that helmet belongs too.

As for some of the others, I'll say that I like the Tenn., Vandy, SCar, UK, and Ole Miss ones. Stanford's helmet looks pretty funny to me if you look at those outside the SEC.
