🏈 Looking for a favorable matchup on Saturday against LSU?

Greater Christian Atlanta has produced several "FBS Series" players in the past including one notorious offensive lineman for Alabama; the much maligned Chris Capps. Let me introduce you to the latest offensive line product from GAC. His name is T-Bob Hebert. He is the starting center for the LSU Tigers and will be matched up with none other than Mt. Cody.

Tale of the Tape

T-Bob Hebert............... Terrance Cody

Height 6' 3"........................ 6' 5"

Weight 285........................ 365

Just a little size mismatch for the son of former New Orleans Saint (Michigan Panther <usfl> and Atlanta Falcon) Bobby Hebert. You may think to yourself, "well, Mt. Cody is larger than most centers in college football so who cares if this kid is smaller than Cody? They'll double team him anyway, right?"

As true as that may be, if there has been one critique of this LSU team and if there has been one weakness, it has been the offensive line. LSU is tops in the league in allowing sacks and has some of the worst offensive numbers not only in the SEC but in the nation (106th). There is a reason Scott finally enjoyed rushing for over 100 yards last week....against Tulane. Tulane, by the way, ranks 108th nationally against the run and against much weaker competition than the SEC. Don't let that drubbing of the Green Wave fool you.

Add to this some remarks by some of the Tigers own fanbase over the concern of T-Bob versus Cody taken from one of their message forums and you get the idea that people that know T-Bob best have cause for concern: (From Tigerdroppings.com)

"Maximus": T-Bob either gets blown back by a d-lineman or runs out to cut block a LB and misses by 3 yards
"southern man": Watch the line splits. All year the guards line up very close to the center, to protect him. Hence, it has been tough sledding up the middle. The wrong guy is playing center.
"HotWheelz77": I totally agree. To me this is the biggest problem of our o-line troubles. He is driven two steps back post-snap the majority of passing plays. On film, it's easy to identify the weakest link on the line.
That is just a sampling.

So who will assist the young Mr. T-Bob against Mt. Cody? Les Miles didn't mince words and said in his Monday Press Luncheon that he would put two players on Cody. The first candidate is LSU SR OG, Lyle Hitt. He stands 6' 2" and weighs in at 295 according to the LSU program. Debatable. What's not debatable, if you watched any of the LSU/Florida game is the Gator defensive line pushed these two guys (Hebert and Hitt) around like cheap tackling dummies. Against a decent defensive front, the Tigers amassed a total of 3 points. I don't see this game shaping up any differently. With Mt. Cody occupying more than his fair share of space in the middle, Alabama will stunt, rush and malign Jordan Jefferson all afternoon long in Bryant Denny.

I am not too certain that our defense will wear down the LSU offense. They won't be on the field long enough to do so. I know everyone is expecting this epic showdown and are looking at the remainder of intangibles but I don't have to look no further than the hero of the latest Daniel Moore painting to know what kind of game this will be. It will be one that if Alabama only scores another 12 points, it may be plenty enough to beat these Tigers.

It's an often used cliche—a battle in the trenches.

But, even using something that's as old as Verne Lundquist himself (older perhaps?), this game really does come down to the lines.

Just looking over LSU for a bit I'm about to publish, it's amazing to me how some of their stats this year totally contradict themselves.

They've had two good games on offense the last few weeks—against Auburn and Tulane.

Tulane. I really don't have to say anything about that.

Auburn? I've had my say about that on the blog last week.

I think LSU is going to their own ****** ******* funeral. You can bank on Saban trying to pitch a shutout. If the infield - er, defense - can score, Bama may need only for the offense to wear out the LSU defense. Just stay out there long enough to rest the Bama defense.

I'm thinking this will be very similar to the S.C. game with about the same results maybe better. Tide Rolls in this one.

I get the same feeling.

I heard Danielson on the radio down here on Monday and when asked about the game, he has always remarked about LSU's D-line. Has done it for weeks. He says that their D-line looks the part, but doesn't play the part. Said that any team with a decent O-line can push them around, and thats uncharacteristic. HE said Bama has better O-Line than average, He also said our O-line can't man handle like last year, so we have to finess with the Wildcat and Ingram. But he said it works.....
..just passing it along

One of the things that has shocked me about the LSU DL is I've seen runs, up the middle mind you, that they've just missed tackles on. Fundamental football just wasn't there.

Quite frankly, it doesn't shock me. It's something I've noticed with Chavis before...
