It's been 167 days.

Over that five and a half month span we've been smothered with one theme; the 2010 seasons' results are ample reason to suspect the 2012 season won't be as successful as 2011. In the era we live in it's not a stretch, and probably a pretty sound bet, to think the Tide won't repeat as National Champions. Things change so dramatically in the landscape of college football on a year to year basis it would be foolish to assume this season will be a repeat of last.

But, therein is the crucial point. Things do change drastically. However, they don't change as much from one year, 2011, to another, 2012, as they have over a two year span: 2010 to 2012.

There are ample reasons to say the defense won't be as good this fall. After all just like in the aforementioned 2010 year the Alabama defense has lost a lot of playmakers. There are just as many reasons to suggest we may not see a defense like last years in the next decade. It's a hope and prayer that we do. The truth of the matter is that unit was one of the best in our long history of great defenses.

When people look forward to a football season and make forecasts on how a team will fare they normally do so looking at three different areas; offense, defense, and special teams. I'm going to to take three areas as well in this brief look forward to 2012; the truths, the hopes, and our prayers.
