🏈 Looking ahead to Florida State

I dont know.....I think Jimbo is still a touch ahead....
But..."things inthe rear view are closer then they appear"
And Jimbo has a distinct advantage being inbright lights Florida...
As opposed to hidden-away Clemson....
LSU is going to regret not grabbing JF when they had a chance....

Jimbo is the best coach in the ACC. With Petrino, Richt, Fuente, Fedora, recentely joining the party, and Dabo coming on will be interesting to see if he can stay on top of the heap.

Jimbo already won a NC.
I'm not sure what you mean here, OP. Both have a NC--as does Larry Coker, Gene Chizik, and Mack Brown.

What does a major loss do for the psyche down there? It's a documented, strained relationship between Fisher and some of the PTB from FSU.

The original post seemed to imply it was time for Jimbo to make a statement with his team as Dabo had. I'm just pointing out that Jimbo has already made a statement by winning a NC (although in the minds of fans, one is never enough).

I was thinking a little further down the road.

FSU finished 1st in the ACC Atlantic and won the BCSNC in '13.
FSU finished 1st in the ACC Atlantic in '14.
FSU finished 2nd in the ACC Atlantic in '15.
FSU finished 3rd in the ACC Atlantic in '16.

The last two season are back-to-back, 10 win seasons. In the grand scheme of things, he's coaching at Richt's level right now. After the SECCG loss in '12, Richt was on his way out--just a matter of when, right?

A disappointing '17 for FSU puts a whole lot on Jimbo, in my eyes. Dabo's Clemson team had a disappointing '15 season and came back. I wondering what this season really means for Fisher because a mediocre season in '17, followed by the same in '18, puts him in Larry Coker's shoes.

They purely stunk it up against Lousiville and looked like they couldn't catch up with Petrino's scheme, much less Jackson. But he is no Coker and he's going into his 8th season. Finished strong and continued to dominate Miami and Florida and even managed a win over Michigan in the bowl. Their recruiting is tremendous and if they come, Jimbo will get his. Did you see the Florida State president and administration go to war with LSU to keep him?

Nope. Sure didn't. Didn't happen. He got a 250K per year raise for one. H/T to his agent for a little extra cash.

All they did for Coker is help him pack. With Jimbo, it wasn't all about the bottom line, money. He was very unhappy about facilities upgrade and assistant coach's salary. He was getting tired of losing good coaches because of it. It was reported that these were the type of concessions that convinced Fisher to stay. Point being, Jimbo obviously feels comfortable with his future at Tallahassee and it should be just as clear from the president down that FSU likes Jimbo Fisher, they really do.

I dont think that most college Presidents are going to get into these massive bidding wars for HCs....sure if Saban was on the market...or Urban...
JF wantd 6 million to move on....to LSU...and they said ....NO....
While thats an awful mistake...it shows that after Nick and Urban....
The drop off is steep...
I dont think he is comfortable....Its a matter of time.....before someone antes up.....
Dont be surprised if .....UT or AU...cans their HC this year and goes after JF...

An OOC loss to us in week 1 would sting for the PTB in Tallahassee, but he could still salvage the rest of the season and make it to the playoff.

But, if we beat them into submission so badly that they've succumbed to the Bama Hangover that so many hopeful unbeaten-prior-to SEC teams have faced over the years and he hits a 2 or 3 game skid, his seat will be really hot at season's end.

It's also worth noting that his 1 championship was with a once-every-6-to-10-years QB in Rapeis Winston.

Look at all the coaches that had won championships, referenced earlier ITT, that found themselves unemployed not long after said championship... And I see a trend. Vince Young, Cam Newton, etc.

What does that say about those coaches?

There are other aspects at play. There's an assumption he'd take the LSU job as well. I'm not saying there was no interest but agents are agents.

Two quick no thanks.

I don't know if 2015 could be called a disappointing season for Clemson. 14-0 going into the NC. Ranked #1. Plays for NC. Final ranking at #2. Other than losing the NC game, the season was pretty successful. It was the most successful season other than their previous NC season.

I agree that Jimbo is on the Richt track (but he at least won one NC). A lot of talent that never seems to get to the finals. He's not on the hot seat, but he needs to get over the hump.

Right now, we are the hump for them, and they for us. I hear and read how focused we are, how our QB is making strides, we're stoked at RB, reloaded at WR and our D is going to be mean and fast. I'm still nervous about this one.

The way I see it, the Florida State game is possibly only the first meeting...for Bama. For the 'Noles, win or lose in the first game, I think Jimbo will be judged by whether or not he plays the Tide again in 2017.

In other words I see Bama in the playoffs again, win or lose against FSU. I think Bama wins out in the regular season either way. Unless they lose to FSU on Septermber 9th, and they won't be going anywhere much and I'll be very sad.

Is there going to be an assumption he'd take the barner job this year if/when it comes open? Why would he (hell, anyone) think a coach's job is easier in Lee County than in Red Stick?

I don't perceive any pressure on Fisher to beat us. I honestly think the media lauds Saban so much that opposing fan bases hope to merely not get blown out when they play us. That being said, FSU is one of a handful of programs with the personnel and coaching to beat us. Plus, when you consider the departures we've seen in our defensive front in consecutive years, and it being the first game of the season, aaaaaaand Fisher's expertise is offense, I think everyone besides Bama homers know this game is a toss up.

But to @TerryP 's point, I do agree there is pressure on Fisher to win the ACC. Clemson's rise, Miami's rise, Louisville's rise, etc. all put pressure on FSU's expectations to dominate the conference like they did under Bowden.
