🏈 Looking ahead to Arkansas

Arky can't get off the field with their 3rd down defense. Opponents are 32 of 67 for 47.8% on 3rd down, ranking 115th in the nation. Meanwhile, BAMA defense is ranked 14th, allowing opponents to convert 22 of 79 for 27.8%.
Offensively, BAMA converts on 3rd down 48.7% or 37 of 76, good for 23rd in the nation. Arky offensively, 41.7% or 25 for 60 for 55th in the nation

Exactly. As said, #23 against #115 and #55 against #14. Advantage- Bama in both.

Hopefully teams don't wisen up on third downs and taeget Marlon Humphrey or Ronnie Harrison. I see a high success rate if they do.
Perception versus reality.

Teams are doing better against Bama in passing situations on 1st down versus 3rd. It's the 3rd downs that stick out. It's almost a 17% better completion rate

Ugh, A&M on the bye tends to lean in their advantage due to Trevor Knight getting more reps & reading the defense. What's to like?

The Arkansas game is primarily about us not dicking around with our offense. Just do the basics. Run the ball & throw it to open up the run. That's it.

Arkansas starting fullback, Hayden Johnson, was found passed out drunk this week and Bielema would not put him on this weeks depth chart.

On a sad note, starting OT, Frank Ragnow's father died this week and Bielema flew with him to Minnesota to be with family. Not sure what his status is but can't practice this week.

WR, Keon Hatcher missed the Alcorn State game with a bad hammy and coaches said a game-time decision.

He pointed to Hayden Johnson being arrested for 'public intox and some other stuff.' He said Johnson took ownership in it and had a lot of remorse. He'll also go through counseling. Bielema said he is pretty stringent about situations like this. He'll inform him of all of his punishments on Tuesday. Johnson won't start but will play Saturday.

Practice Notes, October 4, Ben Jones: Tidesports.com

Not much new at practice today. Just one of those days where a lot is the same as the day before, not that it's a bad thing considering the team is mostly healthy right now. Alabama was in full pads today.
  • Damien Harris and ArDarius Stewart were both participating and looked fine. Harris was taking carries behind the offensive line, which we didn't see last week.

  • Adam Griffith walked by while we were waiting and wasn't wearing pads or even cleats (the other specialists were) but that doesn't mean much. Specialists often get their work done before the rest of the team and kind of work on their own.

  • Shank was the starter at RG again and Lester Cotton was working in, so that doesn't seem to be resolved yet.

  • Josh Jacobs was the first running back to get carries behind Harris. Bo Scarbrough was third.

  • Tony Brown was at nickel with Shyheim Carter shadowing him. Gonna keep an eye on this and see if they try to work him up with the starters at some point so Minkah can play CB full time.

  • ILBs Josh McMillon and Ben Davis were working on scout team wearing Nos. 23 and 21, respectively. That would be Arkansas LBs Dre Greenlaw and Josh Williams. Greenlaw has 35 tackles so far this season.

Watching KY game for the 3rd time and if I'm Hog OC I will test the middle of Bama run D early and often. There will be some no gains, but KY had some 'moderate' success running between the tackles. Bilema won't abandon the run even if it isn't working early and the Razorbacks OL is big & physical. Thankfully Arkie doesn't have the usual horses at RB, but I'd say <150 rather than <100 will be a key for the Bama D (especially if our offense sputters). We'll find out Saturday night how big a problem the depth of the DL is or isn't. Equipment mgr should bring extra face masks for #10.

One thing I know about the Razorbacks is that Brandon Allen is one tough hombre. We pounded on him pretty good last year and he kept getting up. He took a pretty good pounding last week against aTm and he kept getting up, gotta admire the kids grit and he's a pretty good qb..... bet he keeps the ice baths circulating pretty regular. :-)

Brandon Allen is gone. That was little brother Austin getting drilled by A&M.
