Texas quarterback David Ash won't be returning to the field any time soon.
Texas coach Charlie Strong announced Monday that Ash, who missed Saturday's 41-7 loss to BYU due to a concussion, will be out indefinitely. Ash suffered the concussion in Texas' season opening win over North Texas, but finished the game and did not feel the effects of the concussion until after the game was over.
He missed most of the 2013 season due to concussions as well.
While we can't know for sure how long Ash will be out, or if he'll return at all -- and honestly, I don't think he should at this point -- Texas' next four games are against UCLA, Kansas, Baylor and Oklahoma. So, needless to say, the timing of this injury is just about as bad as it can be, but Ash's health comes well before Texas' need of its starting quarterback.
Tyrone Swoopes started for the Longhorns against BYU and played well enough. He completed 20 of 31 passes for 176 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Not a great line by any means, but he was far from Texas' biggest problem against Taysom Hill and the Cougars.
