AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas coach Mack Brown has taken note of the problems caused by Alabama's Terrence Cody and the veteran defensive line.

The concerns are even more pronounced after the Longhorns allowed nine sacks in their 13-12 Big 12 title game victory over Nebraska.

"Coaches are dealing with Alabama. We're not able to sleep," Brown said. "They've got three (Nebraska All-American defensive tackle Ndamukong) Suhs up front. That's the problem."

Brown joked Cody's domination will keep him from showing all of the game film to his team.

"Everywhere you look, they're knocking people down," Brown said. "We've been afraid to show it to our kids. We'll try to limit how much film we show them. Cut some plays out and go real slow with them. We're not going to feed them all of it at once."

He is just taking an approach Spurrier, Kiffin, Brooks, andI think Mullen took, that is preempptively surrendering in an effort to demonstrate how no one believesthey can bebat us, giving them a moral boost.

If we come in on all cylinders it wont affect the game at all, if we come in trying to breeze though it itll have an impact.

I think he did that when he played USC for the title a few years back, this time it wont work though. I mean, one thing this team has done well all year is playing hard. The times when we were "flat", even if Saban says it, had circumstances surrounding it. There wont be this game, and we are not USC.

Its like when a coach calls time outs down two scores at the two minute mark in the fourth quarter while the opposition has the ball. It looks pretty hopeless, but you gotta do whatever you can.

Make no mistake though, I dont believe in a guaranteed victory, but if we play to our potential itll all work out. If we dont, Texas IS good enough to make Alabama look like pretenders.

I am going to have to agree. Mac is a good coach.
A good coach doesn't have a 3-6 record against OU. Texas recruits itself, best recruiting grounds in the nation.

Given what Oklahoma has accomplished over the past dozen years, most good coaches who face OU each year have a a losing record against them. Only the very best coaches, like Brown, are .500 or better against them.

RTR,

Tim

a lucky SOB sitting in the best recruiting spot in the nation. Maybe luck is what you make of it, just saying, I don't think Mac Brown is good coach. Yeah, he has a record of 80%, but so does Les Miles at LSU.

Personally I'm not sold that Mac Brown can coach his way out of a paper bag.

edit - for the record, I don't expect most of you to agree w/ me, which I'm ok with.

I agree that Mack Brown is a great coach. And make no mistake, Texas is a great team. I wouldn't compare him tactically to Kiffin because that is an insult to Brown. But it is pretty obvious that he is blowing sunshine up our butts hoping to promote over-confidence and complacency. You better believe his guys are seeing ALL the film and his buddies Muschamp and Applewhite are feverishily breaking down Saban tendencies.

There is not enough time for either team to install completely new schemes, though I guarantee both will show the other wrinkles they haven't seen on film. But after the first quarter or two when the trickery dies down, it's going to come down to execution and physicality. If we keep our cool, stay level-headed and play like we have all year, we will out-execute and out-physical them. RTR!!!

Wow! That is the biggest load of coach-speak I have heard in a long time. His players have seen every second of game film on us....blee dat! We just have to come out focused, poised, and PHYSICAL. If we do those things, I think we'll take care of our business.

He also said that Applewhite knows how most of our offensive players think and that Muschamp knows how Saban thinks which gives them an advantage.

Everything he says to the press is said in hopes that our players will hear it and it will get into their heads. He's a good coach and know's how to play the press. IMO he's not a great coach as was evident in the Nebraska and Texas A&M games.

That being said, Texas is good enough to beat us if we lose focus. Hell, Tennessee almost beat us and Texas is a lot better than them.

My thoughts exactly, I fully expect to see #57 on the field ALOT. Texas will be seeing alot more four and possibly 5 man fronts then we've shown all year imo.

Ditto to both points. I got a feeling the defense will look different than what they've seen on film, and I believe that they can and will put a tremendous amount of pressure on McCoy.

The fire that Coach Saban has had about him in the recent press conferences leads me to believe that he is drilling the whole "finish" concept even harder leading up to this game. This could be their best game yet.

No doubt it's coach speak, but one could only hope he thinks of Cody as a Suh type DL, and it focusing on him. Cody's job is not to get sacks, but demand double and triple teams leaving Ro and Dareus to reak havoc. If Cody demands a double team, I like my chances of Ro being able to chase down and contain a scrambling McCoy.

A lot of people "outside" think that Cody doesn't do anything for our team because they look at his stats and don't see much. I seen several people on another board trying to match up Suh against Cody. They are both extremely talented in my opinion. The thing is, Cody just fills up the middle. He doesn't expect sacks and so forth.

I would love to see the stats of how many yards have came from running up the middle compared to yards coming from the outside. I mean, let's take Florida as an example. They didn't even attempt to run up the middle but like once. The whole game. Florida gained a lot of yards from the ground this year and changed the whole play style because Cody feels it up.
