🏈 LINK: UNC fires Butch Davis

I saw this coming but far later than I thought. If there are no new violations, why can him one month before kick-off?

Perhaps UNC uncovers something else in their internal investigation or they forced him to fall on his sword, i.e. Tressel

So, did the Chancellor fire him? Without knowing what's going on behind the scenes, it makes who ever did the firing look incompetent if you ask me. If nothing "has changed", then I'd have to question their ability to make a decisions in an effective and timely manner.

In Forde's article he refers to the "new BOT." It was the first meeting Thorp (chancellor) had been in with the group. While Thorp says it was his decision, I'd imagine he was told this is what you need to do.

I'm wondering if their AD, Baddour, can keep his job?

Presser at 11...don't know whether ESPN News will cover it live or not.

As to who they put in place? It has to be one of their assistants. Given the right guy, UNC could be a great job for a football coach. He'll get the support he needs, I'm sure.

Yah, saw that a few hours ago.

I was listening to the Scott Van Pelt show earlier today and he had Andy Staples on. In their discussion Andy mentioned something I hadn't thought about.

IF UNC had fired Davis when the NCAA started their investigation, or when they had to suspend those 14 players, or when John Blake's payments from the agent were found, or when the tutor situation was uncovered, or when...well, you get the picture.

IF they had fired him after one of those episodes, they could have fired him for cause. Because they didn't and even allowed him to keep his job through the Media Days for the ACC, now they are looking at having to pay his buyout: 3MM is what Staple's said would be due.

As a friend of mine commented earlier today: "Can they do anything right in Chapel Hill?"
