The list really isn't that complicated.

We've seen the beginning of the turn-around at Michigan which puts Harbaugh on the list. We've seen the same at UF with McElwain. In both of these cases I'm left with the question "was it the former coach, or the talent of the new coach?"

Fuentes at Memphis. Herman at Houston. Here's two guys who've done a hell of a job this season outside the Power 5. Should they deserve recognition in this award? I'm not so sure on that ...

Ferentz at Iowa. Come on. It's Iowa. Outstanding job but I'm left with this thought ...

The building job Dabo has done at Clemson has to be considered. If people are going to laud Spurrier for having three successful seasons down the road from Dabo, shouldn't they also praise the fact Swinney's teams have had 10+ win seasons, five years in a row?

The fan in me would vote Dabo. It wouldn't be a debate with Ferentz, or Coach Mac. Heck, before I'd vote for Coach Mac or Harbaugh I'd put Pat Fitzgerald at N'Western at the top of my list.

Your's?

Fedora had a great year, team improved throughout. Dabo probably wins it, if he wins his first round game, certainly.

Usually, the award goes to a coach of an undefeated or one-loss team. Brooks in '94 at Oregon (9-4, first ever Rose Bowl), and O'Brien in '12 (8-4 with a remnant Penn St. team), Barnett at NW and Snyder at K-State were both two-loss teams - the rest of the thirty or so winners were undefeated or one-loss teams.

Saban. If you're gonna start talking about Dabo's 10 win seasons, then Saban has to be in the mix. We've been ranked either 1 or 2 in how many of his seasons at Alabama, 7 of 8?

Dynasty over my ass.

Hell, perhaps even Gary Paterson. Didn't whine last year and did an impressive job despite all the injuries he's had on the team.

Dabo or Mac for me. Reason I would consider Mac is because of just how bare the cupboard was there on offense and the job they have done despite having nothing on O with Grier out. Dabo has built an ACC monster there that is going to be the dominant team that everyone thought FSU would be for years.
