🏈 Let it sink in. For the 6th time in the last nine years Bama will play for the national title.

And no other current coach has more than 4 wins against #1. VERY impressive.

Actually, I think that number is three and there's only one active coach with three: Meyer. How I remember this I don't know. Mollenkopf, coach at Purdue, had four years ago. We're talking back in the early stages of the Bryant era (who had three) at Bama. I remember there are four coaches with four but I can't recall one of them. Johnson did at Miami and JoePa did at Penn State.

There's a few with three. Johnson reminded me of Erickson who had three. Schembechler is in that group. Switzer at OU?

OH, Holtz at Notre Dame--he had four.

I'd noticed this when I posted the thread and since ESPN has it scrolling I figured it would be something to share in case you may have missed the blurb.

Coach Bryant won his first NC in '61, his fifth in '79--five over a span of 19 years. That record stands today as the most NC's within that time frame from one coach.

As this thread indicates Saban is going after his fifth in nine years which would, of course, break Bryant's record.

To me, this falls in the same discussions about the number of national titles Alabama claims. They are often scoffed at by others but this fact remains. When they do scoff, there's one thing they can't ignore: no matter how you look at them--over the history of the program or in the poll era--no one has more.

As a Bama fan I find it pretty neat that once again we're looking at a record being broken but it's one Alabama already owns.
