It seems to be a rush to judgement when saying Miles wouldn't work there. There's a lot of similarities to Kansas and Okie State (when he was first hired there.)

OSU had won six games over the last four years before Miles was hired as OC in the mid-90's. Kansas has won about the same over the last four years. OSU went from three wins the year before he was OC to eight wins the year he left to coach at Dallas. They fell back to that three and four win season until OSU re-hired him as their head coach and he turned that around again to an eight and nine win team. The foundation we saw Gundy inherited was from Miles. When Pickens started throwing money at the OSU athletic department we saw them hit the double digit win mark.

If he's done it once--and it's essentially twice--in the Big 12 with his style of offense what's to say he can't again at KU? OSU doesn't have any inherent advantages over OSU.

Recruits don't see it as a way to get to the NFL. It's an uphill battle across money fronts. Will KU pay for a good coach when they don't have the money coming in?

Lol, in honesty, at 64 he's probably got 1 last opportunity to be a HC.

Yeah at this point whatever his next job is will be "his career". His BCSC was in '07. That is a lifetime ago on the recruiting trail and honestly most folks think of him as the stubborn old coach who wouldn't change and got shoved out.

Les might be the right guy to fix the broken program. He just need someone to call better offense. After being away from the game and seeing what is going on, Les would be wise to hire someone who is creative with offense. Do that, Kansas will go from 2 win teams to 5 wins team next year.

I think Les will do well wherever he goes, but that's mostly because he's only likely to be hired by a school that is down and can only go up. I don't think he'll be hired at tOSU (if Urban's health causes him to leave), Oklahoma (if Riley goes pro), USC (if they've had enough of Helton) or a similar "top" program. Kansas needs to put an emphasis on football, but I don't think they will (their experiment with Charlie didn't work).

I vaguely remember a few details about that story. I do remember thinking at the time..."is this more about what the UGA job is today or more about what Kansas has to offer?"

I think it may be what UGA had to offer back in the mid-90s. He left for Minnesota a year later.

@OldPlayer, the thought made me pick up the phone and call an old friend. It's his contention Mason didn't want to face Spurrier each season. There may be some truth to that but it doesn't fit with him moving on to Minnesota. That point he took that job tells me he wasn't afraid of a challenge.

It's time for new leadership in Lawrence. And the latest rumblings around college football suggest that Alabama associate head coach and quarterback guru Dan Enos is a name to watch in the race for the Jayhawks job.
Enos has a 26-36 head coaching record from five years in charge at Central Michigan. This is his first year mentoring Tua Tagovailoa at Alabama after three years at Arkansas, where he mentored brothers Brandon and Austin Allen.

It would probably be better for him. But Miles has been getting the same star treatment as Phil Fulmer when he got fired. Not sure why and he certainly doesn't deserve the cold shoulder.

The thing about a spot like Kansas.... or here at CSU... the "mid major" type of football schools out there... It comes down to what you're really looking for. Are you looking for a quick shot in the arm or sustained success? Mac came into CSU and turned it around in I believe 3 years, gave us success that we'd only seen under the great Sonny Lubick. Then he's gone. Then what?

From everything I hear about Enos he could be a fantastic head coach. We never really know. But if the best case scenario plays out, then what? He's out and you're SOL like CSU with a shit head coach for the next 5-6 years... If I were Kansas I would value a guy like Les Miles moreso than Enos, simply because there's a better chance for sustained success. Same reason I love Mac the second time around at CSU... Even though it probably won't happen.

Every new hire is a crap shoot though... Even the proven head coaches. It will be interesting to see what Tedford does after his success at Fresno... He seems young enough to want to get another big job. But in a perfect world something like that happens at KU and they hit the jackpot. The young coaches just seem like a quick & dirty fix, followed by starting right over again.
