Leonard Fournette reportedly did not do very well on the NFLās trusted test for measuring intelligence.
According to The Journal Sentinelās Bob McGinn, Fournette scored an 11 out of 50 on the Wonderlic test at the NFL Combine. A score of 20 is considered āaverageā intelligence, and the average score for running backs in 16.
Florida State RB Dalvin Cook also scored an 11, and Oklahomaās Joe Mixon scored a 12. Stanford RB Christian McCaffrey recorded a 21, while Tennessee RB Alvin Kamara scored a 24.
A Wonderlic score does not necessarily predict NFL success or failure. Longtime NFL running back and Pro Bowler Frank Gore scored a 6 on his test before he was drafted. But a low score will be something teams consider as they evaluate prospects.
Fournetteās draft stock has been rising since the combine. He surprised people with a 4.51 in the 40-yard dash, and he alleviated some of the concerns about his weight by dropping 12 poundsbefore his pro day workout.
Many mock drafts project the LSU running back as a top-10 pick. Some people in the NFL have suggested he could be in play for the No. 1 overall pick, though the Cleveland Browns are reportedly deciding between Texas A&M DE Myles Garrett and North Carolina QB Mitchell Trubisky. Despite the low Wonderlic score, it does not appear that Fournette will slip too far down draft boards.
The NFL Draft starts Thursday, April 27.
