🏈 Kirk Herbstreit already putting us down

I am really surprised at Herbie, I guess he is just trying to build hype. See the video linked below. He is pretty much saying that we are going to hear how the game is a foregone conclusion from everyone, get big heads and get complacent and pretty much lay an egg against Texas - it was the whole point of his entire segment. Mark May tried to counter with Saban keeping his guys prepared, but Kirk comes back with the Utah game and Holtz piles on as well.

BUT last year, we LOST the SECCG - we didn't win it last year. Plus this year, we've been fighting disrespect all year long. It's amazing to me that even at this point, we don't get the respect we deserve for being focused and driven. I don't see it happening. I see our guys focused and driven more than ever and all this Herbstreit, Holtz and others putting us down will just motivate us all the more.

Well, I have a ton of confidence in CNS, but Herbstreit has valid points. A couple thoughts on those points.

-The Big 12 has been the punching bag for most part the decade, especially considering the BCS National Championship, except Texas

-IF Ingram wins the Heisman, Texas is going to have a chip on their shoulder to win. Also, if Ingram does win, he is going to be away from the team far too much b/c he will have to be doing stuff for the Heisman. The Heisman winner has had a BAD run at the NC for some time now.

-The last team that was favored to win against Texas in the BCS championship lost against a do it all QB. USC wasn't shabby that year, but they certainly got sucked into their own press.

NONE of these points position 'Bama well. However, CNS has proven that he can filter out all of these issues probably better than anybody. For example, if Ingram starts stinking up the place before or during the game, CNS will put in a more than capable back. Finally, don't you know that CNS will be banging on all these players about what happened at the last Bowl games. Those favored to win don't win b/c they are favored. So, we just have to get ready to play their best game!

and this is coming from the man who picked ND to be in the BCS title game lou holtz that is=LMFAO:nopity::nopity::nopity:

You realize also they have to say these things. These bowl games bring in big money. They have to bring up points to keep the games interesting. If people start thinking it is going to be a blow out they may not want to watch it.
Though I really don't think that is going to be an issue with a Bama-Texas match up.

Bama should have a huge chip on their shoulder for people to even consider this let down...

Both teams should be ready to play.

This was just like the TT is gonna be too much and will his team to victory...Bama proved otherwise.

If the media keeps telling our players they will have a let down like they did against Utah then let them talk. That will just add fuel to the fire. If Ingram wins the H. and has a bad game then Trent is more than cappable to come in as is Roy. I think there is enough leadership on this team to keep everyone focused. They know that immortality is right in front of them.

Alabama will be as driven to redeem the BCS loss as they were to redeem the SECCG loss. Same result. Bama wins 30-20! Remember where you heard it first. Coming from the guy who predicted the SECCG to be 31-13. And anybody who didn't see that beatdown coming from a mile away, wasn't paying attention.

If anyone can play well without their Heisman player, it's us, so even if Mark wins it and he's away too much and doesn't play well, Trent and Roy can more than pick up the slack, so that maybe a valid argument, but in reality it doesn't hold any water.

i think kirk saying that just gives saban one more thing to use to keep the team focused....i hope everyone keeps saying we will not be prepared and and will show up like we did last year....`it's almost daring us and giving us a reason.

I have a little concern because we just played with so much emotion and skill. As an objective Bama fan, we have not always played with consitency on offense this season. Defensively, we've been pretty steady, but a guy like Tebow still got some pretty big numbers, and a guy like McCoy can still be quite deadly. He telegraphed some passes the other night that no one other than his guy could catch (though he played a poor 1st quarter).

It's going to be a great game. I just don't look for Bama to win in a rout. I didn't expect it Saturday night either, but it happened. Come to think of it, my track record on predicting the winners and losers is great, but I'm terrible at point spreads. I did say that I didn't think Javier Arenas or Brandon James on special teams would make an impact, and that was quite accurate. What I didn't think of was the play of Arenas in the secondary! He got burnt a couple times, but made a huge play when it counted the most.

As Longhorn, I could not have said it better. In the end all of it means nothing to this game, but the number of parallels to the 2005 season is astounding. The UT vs USC title game should be a lesson to all fans that there are no sure things

I have always liked Herbie and he and CNS did an ad together. He is normally very fair, but I think they are trying to generate hype.

If I was CNS, everytime they try to paint David vs. Goliath, I would remind them that we are 0-7-1 against Texas. I would point out that we have been underestimated all year and that in some polls, Texas was ranked higher several times during the year. WE are the ones that should have a chip on OUR shoulders!

At the end of the day this is about as good of a matchup as it gets. No David vs. Goliath here - more like Goliath vs. Goliath. And may the best Tide - er team - win! :-)

Jumping in on this one late, but just wanted to say this;

When I saw it last night I wasn't upset with Herbie. I actually kind of chuckled when he made the comment about Utah. He's right in that the team needs to stay focused, and that it might be hard due to the long layoff. That happens a lot.

What I do think is misplaced is the assumption that BAMA is going to be hyped up and get this big head. I'd wager that Colt McCoy and Texas are viewed in almost the same light by a lot of people as Florida and Tebow are. I know some people will favor the Tide, but Texas gets, and will continue to get a ton of love. This isn't some sort of David vs Goliath situation (as Saban pointed out).

Discipline & Character are the 2 main factors in being successful.Nick Saban is the best teacher of these 2 principles I have witnessed in coaching since Paul'Bear'Bryant. It is evident in the way our men are playing this year. The end of the season last year shows what happens to a team not 100% sold out to these principles. You can look at footage from every game this year to see what commitment to discipline results in.It is truly amazing the way EVERY man on the team plays for the WHOLE team, not himself!!This could be the best coaching performance ever in college football!Look what he has taught these young men to accomplish in just 3 years.Discipline,Honor,Integrity.Maybe he really does need to run for President. If he can get such PRIDE & DEVOTION from a few, what could he teach the reat of us?
