🏈 Kirby Smart: There's a disease at UGA.

I thought he was going to mention the declining rank disease DRD where the uga team is always ranked higher at the beginning of the season than at the end Lol

The disease has been UGA since I was a little boy. They won a NC 4 Decades ago and still think that makes them elite. Call it Al Bundy Syndrome.
I grew up a GA fan living in GA. That disease he is talking about is in the fan base too. Every time a big game comes up you can always bet your house GA gonna win, but being a GA fan is like having a girlfriend that runs around on you and then tells you the details when she gets home.

It's been my contention for several years that slowly and surely Kirby's schtick was wearing thin around UGA. It's not the case with all of them; some will still say all is well and good.

I've watched the state in terms of how many are committing to UGA and this years class is a good example. At last count, two of the top 25 had signed with their state school as we've watched Kirby going to a coast to coast approach.

That number is lower than last year where they signed four of the top 25.
It was nine of the top 25 in 2018.
It was 14 of the top 25 in 2017.

Do you see the trend here?

I say all of that to bring up something I heard before their last game. Herbstreit mentioned it was his belief that the UGA players weren't buying in to Kirby's system.

I'd suggest players from Georgia, and their families, are beginning to see through what Kirby has promised on the recruiting trail and, as it tends happen, the schtick is being exposed as the light grow brighter.

Personally, I'd begin to question if Kirby is Richt 2.0 if I were a UGA fan.

UGa needs some star RBs and I'm not talking about the finesse type. They have been missing that for quite some time. They classically lean too hard on their Qbs. somethings transcend coaching changes and eras.

Kirby addresses from the UGA but he has seen this same situation from the Bama side. It is great to be #1/2/3 in recruiting every year BUT you have to know that you're bring in some folks that have been told they're elite for 3-4 years before you get them a jock and socks. Nick Saban is fighting that same battle today.

Oh and F Georgieee.

I live in Columbus. For those not in the know, that is only like 45 miles from Jordan-Hare, probably exactly where people think of when they joke Auburn is in West Georgia. So we have a large percentage of Aubies and Dawgs (and their interbred, spawn of Satan, goatdog children). The Aubies are horrible mostly because they are like cult members. I can't ever tell how every single one seems to know what the spin is at this exact moment but they always say exactly the same thing at the same time. Right now it is (again) "got a second" type stuff and how Malzahn is building with character. Dawgs are a different breed of annoying. They really can't accept that they aren't the best ever so they live in some la-la land where every win is a sign of how great they are and every loss is only because the other team cheated. Just like you said, they are cucked but pretend like that's cool as long as she sleeps at home most nights.

Don't you have to win something before a disease can spread? Alabama and Clemson have earned the right to claim this, but Georgia has done nothing different in the last fifteen years that would allow hype to take over like a disease.

Me thinks Kirbs started all of this with empty promises to recruits and family to build interest in his program, allowing the fanfare to build and create an environment to lure recruits, only to fall short on the field and continue to lie in recruiting raising hopes even more. They get this false sense of superiority and that they've already made it, yet they haven't. Sounds like coaching to me.

In other words, Jim Donnan 2.0.

It seems like I've seen that suggested a few times here. 🤷‍♂️ 🙃

I'll never forget this story... so y'all knew I grew up Georgia fan. When I was young, my dad took me to a Georgia basketball game, Shandon Anderson days. We had good seats, close to the court, and my dad looks over and sees our newely hired football coach with some recruits and says "look son, there's Donnan. Look at that Championship ring. He won that at Marshall and is gonna win us one I promise". Then we ran across Vince Dooley and my dad tried to get him to shake my hand and he ignored us,so we have zero respect for him after that. Ahh, memories.
