🏈 Kirby interviewing at Auburn today

There's a few things people need to realize.

Auburn is a good job.

They have good backing, a loyal fan base, facilities that rival a lot in the SEC, and many other things that make it one of the better jobs in the SEC.

Another thing most need to realize is coaches look at it as business. It isn't a heated rivalry in their hearts. They realize it is a bigger game and such but they don't live and breathe the rivalry like we do. If we offered him $3mill he'd be an idiot to turn it down due to rivalry or coaching against his mentor which appear to be the main excuses Bama fans give for why he should turn it down.

I'm still not sure how I feelid prefer a HC but don't know if Malzahn would be better than Smart.

Chill out, it's not going to happen people, This is just another Les Miles going to Arkansas or a Jon Gruden going to Tennessee pipe dream.

Smart will end up as a Head Coach away from Saban, not right next door...

How can they be interviewing Petrino today if they have supposedly already hired Kirby Smart????

Auburn search committee has telephone conversation with former Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino

Break it up folks, nothing to see here...

Why would Kirby abandon his key recruiting territory for his first HC job? I see him in the southeast his entire career.

EDIT: Looks like Elephant beat me to it. Haha.

According to Phillip Marshall, Malzahn is now the favorite and that Kirby has not gotten an offer.

Also, a funny quote from Will Lowery:

If Kirby Smart goes to Auburn, I will jump out of the Sun Life stands in Miami and do naked laps until security levels me. Just don't see it

Hello Strangers.... Thought I would stop in to see if you guys were getting anything any different. Simple fact is that if Smart takes the Au job, he will do it now. They do not want him to coach in the NC game. From what I've been told, the offer is 3.2 mil with 500k incentive for a top 10 recruiting class. Like the Aubie above said....that's hard to turn down. Even still, I do not think he takes the job. I could be wrong, but I don't see anyone in their right mind wanting to start their HC career across the street from Saban. Especially Smart who knows better than anyone how good Saban is. I think Gus makes more sense for Au. He's already got ties to a lot of the recruits on their board that will be coming out, he knows how things are done down there and he has already had success as a HC (even if it is just one year at Arky St.) Add to the Saban / Mentor aspect of this thing the fact that Au is looking at some NCAA troubles on the horizon and it just doesn't make sense for Smart to gamble his career like that. I think UT's wishlist is Jimbo, then Strong. FSU has cut Jimbo's athletic budget and there is mutual unhappiness in Tallahassee. I would not be surprised to see him take the UT job. If he does, expect Smart to start practicing his war chant. If Jimbo turns it down, UT will hire Strong. This explains why Strong can't say if he will be at Louisville next season or not. He's waiting to see what happens with fisher. If UT comes at Strong, he will take it. That leaves Louisville open. I think Louisville is a great fit for Kirby to get started. They are established, not in trouble and do not expect to win it all every year. That keeps him in the south and is the perfect place to get his feet wet when one of the big time jobs is ready for him.

I will speculate big time here..... If Kirby does not leave Bama this season, then Saban's days as the HC at Bama are numbered. If Smart stays, I think Saban has given him an exit strategy time frame and hand picked Kirby as his successor. It would not surprise me to see Saban slide into Mal Moore's position. He has put his house up for sale on Lake Burton and is building a mansion in T-town, so it doesn't sound like he is going anywhere soon. That doesn't mean that he will be the coach though. I think this may be the case because Kirby has turned UGA down two years in a row (season before last and last season....which is also another reason I think he does not take the Au job). Kirby is a UGA boy and for him to turn them down flat, 2 years in a row doesn't make a lot of sense unless he's been tapped by Saban himself. Just my two cents, but I do not see him taking the Au job.

The thing that I hate the most about this is that we have a freaking National Championship to get ready for and play in.

It doesn't bother much IF he leaves, even though its Auburn because its a legit job, and Saban will take care of filling the void with someone else top notch. BUT, the timing of this if it happens is not exactly ideal.

This would be tougher to deal with and work around if it happens than it was with McElwain, too.

All this is leading up to is Petrino getting the job.

Arkansas State head coach Gus Malzahn is the leading candidate to become Auburn's next head coach. No offer for Kirby Smart.
They appear to offer it to everyone that the Power brokers and the Auburn Alumni want and then they say it just didn't work out for one reason or another and then BOOM____ Bobby Petrino

This will all be over with within 48 hours!

People also seem to forget that Saban has a requirement for all of his assistants....THEY MUST FINISH THE SEASON. See McIlwayne (sp).

For those of you who don't know me....ask Porter....I bet that old fart remembers me. :icon_eek:

I don't care what spin they put on it. Do you think Au wants it out that Smart turned them down? I'm telling you, he had an offer. If you don't believe me, that's fine. I know what I know.
