I didn't say "Plays by the rules", Jay Jacobs said that. Of course Smart plays by the rules, Alabama is running the cleanest program in the nation today.

I know he did, I was just confused by the emphasis with quotations.. esp after the statement that "he doesn't fit the criteria".

auburn will not hire petrino imo. and i don't know that petrino would walk into sanctions even if they wanted him.

charlie strong i think would be their best choice.

kirby smart might be a good hire for them. although unproven as a head coach may not excite the auburn committee.

Whatever happens with Smart, a good question to discuss is who is the mastermind of the Alabama defense? Is it Saban or Smart?

I don't want him to go just yet but if he does then best of luck. He has been a great DC for us but make no mistake he does not MAKE our defense. Assistant coaches and coordinators will come and go so long as we have a coach that can groom or mentor them. Kirby has been with Saban for a long time.

When you have a very successful program, this comes with the territory. Kirby Smart is one helluva coach, deserves the shot at HC somewhere and if it is Auburn so be it. I have no doubt that IF Kirby goes we will get a solid DC to fill the position. I will and am forever grateful for Kirby Smart and wish him nothing but the best here or elsewhere. I personally don't buy into him going to Auburn but if he does good luck to him other than the Iron Bowl.

It's like, I know it's a great gig, a better paying job, a great fanbase .. But it's still Auburn hahah it would pain me to see such a great Alabama coach head over there. Either way, I wish him success wherever he ends up. Unless it ends up being us vs. him in the Iron Bowl!!

If your "friends" are "in the know" why wouldn't you believe them?

Also, if this is true, great for Kirby, he has earned it.

It is not good logic because of the NCAA question. It could be a terrible consequence that would take a long time to resolve. It is a great job, but with the questions over their head, Bobby Petrino looks like the best choice because what does he have to loose.

Won't happen. Jeff Lurie is a pansy who will let him finish the season, and Reid will be allowed to "gracefully" take another offer. The point is, though, that to end up coaching for the biggest rival of a team is unpleasant for the original team to swallow at first

That Would Make The Already Brutal West Division A Very Interesting Division...... Would Change A Lot In The Division As Far As Wins And Loses In My Opinion. Imagine Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, LSU, And Texas A&M......All With Good Coaching And Recruiting Skills.....Talk About SEC Hate.

I believe this is either another gigantic propaganda campaign designed to stir up Alabama fans or one faction of Auburn power brokers trying to forward their agenda against another faction of Auburn power brokers...

Why would Smart want to attempt to go head to head with Saban in the same state with Saban?

Why would Smart want to get involved with what he has to know has been going on down there for decades and of late?

Why would Smart want to recruit head to head against his mentor knowing what he would be up against?

When something like this rumor sounds so illogical there is a reason for that it sounds so illogical.

Smart is smart and so is Sexton and they know Alabama will throw a ton of money at KS just to squash this rumor of him accepting this job.

Not buying it at all!

Thanks for the info Phillip. I know you can't help what this committee is doing but I am disgusted. I can not believe we are going this route. Although Malzahn is not an awful hire and may be a great one eventually I am concerned about his role in the mess we have now. I was REALLY thinking we would make a big splash hire and yet here we are. Thanks for the update and for being professional is running this board. I have learned a valuable lesson today about other boards.
