I don't see this growing legs. I think Kiffin enjoys the college game more so than Saban. I think Kiffin enjoys the task of developing a young QB and having the weapons at his disposal to develop and torture opponents.

I'd suggest not getting caught up in the word, "front runner."
Not only that (I'm going to go all Grammar Police here) there's a huge difference in A front runner and THE front runner. All I'm saying is pay attention to the modifier in the sentence.
Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin is the front-runner for the San Francisco 49ers vacant offensive coordinator position, according an ESPN report. The team is also reportedly considering Indianapolis assistant Rob Chudzinski.
Kiffin told reporters last month he had no plans to leave Alabama, according to the ESPN report. Kiffin spent one year with the Crimson Tide under head coach Nick Saban, where he led an offense that logged an FBS 14th-best 6.66 yards-per-play. Alabama lost in the semifinals of the inaugural College Football Playoff to eventual champion Ohio State.
If hired, Kiffin would work with new offensive line coach Chris Foerster and running backs coach Tom Rathman.
The 49ers parted ways with former head coach Jim Harbaugh Dec. 29 after San Francisco struggled to an 8-8 record and missed the playoffs after making it at least as far as the NFC Championship game in the three previous seasons.
Doesn't he still have a home on the west coast. I know back before the season started he tweeted a pic of him back in Cali with his smokin hot wife and two girls. He has always been a west coast guy.......that makes me think he would seriously consider it.
I think he will stay one more year. He has started rebuilding his reputation and came a long way in one year since he was out of the limelight and off limits interview wise. I just think he will keep his word this time to continue to make his word more solid for his future. He still needs to show some consistency in a couple different ways. He's been all over the place the last ten years.
A job as an OC in the NFL versus a job as a OC in college? Make the move. No recruiting, at home in Cali...two, three year gig and he's back in the names for head coaching jobs again.
The easier route would be to take the NFL job on the left coast. It is only my opinion, but I think Kiffin likes the recruiting and developing a young QB. I think he stays another year and then takes an HC job.
Like @TerryP said, only one year with Saban and look what he could be in line for!!
Matter of when, not if. If they offer him, he's almost certainly going to take it. It's a good spot for him... In the NFL where he wants to be, and on the West Coast where his family wants to be. While I'd love to keep him, it was pretty much only going to be a 2 year marriage anyway... if he leaves now, it just means we are looking for a replacement a year (2 at best) earlier. It would suck, but it is what it is...
On the selfish side, I'd like for him to stay one more year to get more time with our young QB's. on the professional side, I can see him back in the NFL. At first, I wasn't crazy about the hire and now, I don't want him to leave.
