...and thought I'd compare two guys we're all familiar with.

One, as a senior in high school, threw for right at 2300 yards and 28 touchdowns with a completion rate of 60%.

The other, as a senior in high school, threw for right at 1600 yards and 15 touchdowns. This same guy, as a junior, threw for almost 2600 yards as a junior and 26 touchdowns.

The first threw for over 2700 yards as a junior.

One, Blake Sims. The other, AJ McCarron.

I wouldn't be so quick to assume Sims can't, or won't, be handling snaps behind center next season.

I think Sims is perfectly capable to do the job & add an extra piece to the offense, having the ability to run w/ it. I think he is perfectly capable of throwing the ball but I don't recal any longball attempts during this cleanup play. If he doesn't start, I think it will land on his decision making. CNS knows what he is doing.

I won't have any problem with Sims. He has bought his time, if he is the starter he will have my full support. I personally think he will do just fine. Either way it looks like there will be plenty of competition at the spot.

exactly the way I feel about Sims, he has to be admired for his dedication. How many QB transfers have we had? 3...4??

And it seems he has never dropped past #2 status, give him the ball, he has damn sure earned it.

I can't remember who it was against other than it was one of our OOC games. He did have what Saban would call an explosive play on a pass that went for 35-40 yards. The only reason it sticks out in my head is it was the Cyrus Jones and Christion had a reception in the same game. I recall thinking about the possibility of two C. Jones becoming confusing for TV crews.

Florida Atlantic, maybe?

Or how about 2,742 as a junior completing 57 percent of his passes.? David Cornwell.

Just like everyone ran a 4:30 mile in high school, all that really matters is performance in college. That high school stuff only helped you get on campus.

Correct. But there are some folks who seem to have written Sims off completely b/c he was on the RB roster for a bit. But he was recruited entirely as a QB.

Also, out of all the QB's on the roster, who do you think knows the plays better than anyone else. Or at least should know the plays better? Sims should be the best candidate to take over baring injury or if he totally drops the ball when it comes to decision making.

I like Blake IF we have a very different offensive scheme. I just dont think he subs right in and attempts to run the same offense were running now. That, to me, is silly.

Something like what marshall is doing at the barn would be a good fit for Blake

Coach Saban will have who he is most comfortable with in that spot. Will it be Sims? No one knows. I'm supporting them ALL!! It will be a fun spring training and Fall camp to see who pulls ahead as the #1 guy!!

Changing our offensive system into that glorified triple option that Auburn runs with Marshall is not going to happen, PERIOD. Thats just ridiculous.

If Sims gets the job there will definitely be a read option/running package in there for his abilities and it has obviously already been implementing to some degree since we've seen Sims running the read option in games for the past two years. It will just now be put into the gameplan, IF he gets the job. He brings a dynamic to the offense we've never had under Saban so I'm excited to see if he gets the job.

I think inadvertently you agreed with me.

Oh how much I'd love to see 'Bama have an offensive dynamic similar to the 49ers w/ Colin Kaepernick! Regardless if it is w/ Sims or not.

The defense too. WOW!!!

With more consistency lol I agree with what you mean tho, Sims is the only guy we have that could do that, and Saban doesnt seem to be in the hunt for any other of those dual threat type of players at QB. Cornwell and Ricky Town are most certainly not dual threats.

I don't remember it that way.

As I recall, he was originally committed to UGA. He flipped to UA and then a day after we won the NC he called the staff and decommitted. He had concerns whether or not he would be used on the offensive side of the ball. Saban assured him that was the plan.

As I recall the other schools recruiting him were telling him that Saban had plans to move him to defense—specifically in the defensive backfield.

If one were to look up articles on his commitment, or re-commitment if you will—I'm pretty damn sure you'll find quotes where he said he wasn't promised a position or told he'd be used as QB. All he was told is that he would be used on offense with a chance to contribute on return teams.

Now that I'm writing this I also recall a lot had forecasted him as a slot receiver at the collegiate level.
