šŸˆ Just an idle thought on Bama vs UT—the punting game.

Going back through the years I can't remember a game where I believed the punter at Bama was actually better than the one the Vols used...

The only guy that comes to mind in Bearden in '99. But, now that I think about it his knee injury was after the UT game, wasn't it? Doesn't matter, really. They averaged right at eight more yards per punt in that '99 contest.

Anyone come to mind on your end?

Mandell edged out Palardy in 2011, but Palardy was far better in 2012. Mandell was even better in 2010, averaging 47 on two kicks, but Cunningham was huge, averaging 48.2 on six. Fitzgerald beat out Cunningham in 2009, 44 to 37.

Wasn't Bearden in 2002 or 2003 when that injury happened? I cant remember who it was in '99, Morgan something I think. But I know the year before it was Daniel Pope, and he was averaging something like 45 yards per punt and he was by far the best I can think of even though he sucked in the NFL. I'm sure I could go back and find the name but I'm 100% sure Bearden was 2002 or 2003 not 1999.

In three of those years, '09 and '10, Bama didn't have enough punts to be represented in the record books on CFBStats.com. Same for UT in '12. (If I'm recalling this correctly...thought about this last night.)

That was during fRan's time, wasn't it.

Patrick Morgan. Hell, when it comes to kicking and '99 one can't help but think Phlugner. :computerdestroy:

I think it was.

Yep, Patrick Morgan thats it. Yeah all I can think of is the damn Orange Bowl and a missed extra point. Ironic seeing that we beat Florida in the swamp off a missed extra point from Florida.

One of two games in my life I've left my seat because I couldn't stand to watch. Hell, I had more faith in Jamie Christensen in '05 than I did Phlug...

Chris Mohr is my only offer to counter that.

Hmmm. Hadn't thought about him in awhile.

His senior year...was he selected All-American or was it All-SEC? I recall a year with Perkins and two with Curry...IF I'm recalling this correctly. He was consistent, but not on the level of Scott to this point. I'm thinking his average was in the low to mid 40's...which I'd take any day!

Geez, Tim. You're going to end up sending me searching through archives and old media guides!

If wiki is to be believed, just all-SEC in 1988, three year starter which would span Perkins/Curry, and 15 years in the NFL. And a country song writer...
