Did anyone else notice the small scuffle that took place between Julio and the Texas db? They seemed to have words and then slapped each other on the helmet. The slapped seemed to indicate that each knew that they would battle all night and may the best man win. I just thought that that was cool. I thought that Julio was going to get hit with a personal foul and it scared me when it happened but made me laugh when the Texas player slapped/patted his helmet (mutual respect thing in football?). Also did anyone notice how well he blocked down the field on this game. I feel like he does not get enough credit for this and he seems to really enjoy playing in that role.

i agree 100% about the blocking.. i think julio has had alot to do with ingrams success running downfield.. i really wish for him to do well in the future and would not want another reciever in college football to line up instead fo him.. he is getting alot of flack from some, but he is still really young and has all the potential in the world, but i have never seen a more dominate force blocking in the secondary..

yea that was real early. Julio nailed the hell out of him and then they got in each others face as to say "its gone be all night" and then slapped each other on the helmet and went onto the next one. Julio's blocking was crazy, he was killing the corners all night in the run game. dude is a beast.

Julio has mentioned before that he enjoys blocking just as much, if not better, than receiving. I think he likes being a physical player. We need versatile guys like him. Just being able to catch a ball but not be able to throw a block isn't going to help this type of team.

Yeah I saw the part with him and the Texas DB. Julio had about 6 inches on him too lol. It was cool to see both of them give each other respect. I bet they battled it out all night and congratulated each other after the game.

At one point in the game, I believe he actually lined up as tight end.

Julio + 25lbs = FREAK TE

A tall, lanky, and skinny WR came to Alabama in the early 1970s and put on about 45 pounds over the next five or six years.

Around 18 years (plus or minus a few), this tall, lanky, skinny high school WR retired from the NFL with a certain ticket punched for the NFL Hall of Fame.

Ozzie.

Julio would be a MAJOR weapon as a beefed up NFL-style H-Back.

Well if we can see he needs more touches & better separation, then I guarantee you know who does too...

I think this year was Julio's time to deal w/ some real challenges that come w/ his caliber talent & size. They are as follows:

  • Double teaming him will be his life as WR & it will be w/ the best DB on each team. This is his yoke that he must carry & figure out how to win this battle, otherwise, he will slip into mediocrity.
  • He must figure out how to be open despite who the #2, #3, #4, etc WR/TE's are going to be. When he gets to the NFL & wants to be the premier WR he isn't going to have the kinda support CNS is bringing him while in college.
  • Nerves have troubled him a little bit on the catches. I think that has more to do w/ the expectations he places on himself. These expectations have been diverted w/ his fantastic down field blocking but sooner or later he has got to come to terms w/ the head game.
Those are the things that he controls but lets mention what the team needs to do better:

  • GMAC has been hit or miss. He gets a mulligan b/c of his first year but he has got to be better at getting Julio the ball. The man has been open, wide open, in several games & GMAC just missed him w/ throws & vision too many times.
  • The other WR's got exposed during the TX hame IMHO. They played a fantastic pass D & got whipped. Plain & simple. Of course pass protection wasn't all that great (no it was BAAAD) but they have to have the presence to get open quick.
  • Play calling has a been a little suspect at times when it came to involving Julio. IMHO, Julio is a greater talent at WR than Ingram at RB (I'm not discing the kid) & there just hasn't been a BIG push to have him touching the ball. It seemed like it was going to be there in the spring & in the beginning of the season, then is just disappeared. It could've been his knee though.
In retrospect, I'm not too surprised how this season went for Julio considering his injury & how well Ingram took over games & how GMAC played at times. And this year Julio has been a monster on the blocking game, which is FANTASTIC (I cannot stress that enough), but Julio has got to get better & we know he can. It will be a real disappointment if he doesn't.

Something tells me the WR's & QB's are going to have a sick off season.

I agree with you on all but this one. I don't think our WR's were exposed due to the fact that they had little chance to get their hands on the ball. We only threw the ball 12 times, 1 of them being from our punter. Couple that with our line's inability to block for Greg and our WR's aren't even having the opportunity to sniff the ball much less be exposed. Sometimes it doesn't matter how quick you are if your quarterback is running for his life from a guy coming unblocked.

I remember on Ingram's first run, I believe, to the left side, Julio blocked the corner all the way into the middle of the field with the O and D linemen.

I think some of his haters fail to see how big of an impact he has in the running game.

This run always come to mind.

has anyone noticed how bada$$ the team looks now.. i really love our uniforms, but we seem to be in such better shape.. everyone has guns.. julio looks like terrifying when he comes to the line of scrimmage.. i just cannot believe how much bigger and stronger bama looks than other teams... i really think julio takes the cake though.. the way he gets in peoples faces and nodds his head.. that gets me fired up..

I really believe he could be an All American/All Pro TE along the lines of Kellen Winslow Sr. He's strong enough and quick enough to handle DE's and a good enough receiver to dominate across the middle. I think he's a good receiver, just not a great one. He could be a great TE.
