🏈 Julio Jones officially announces retirement...

I carried my son to Fan Day before the ‘09 season, my son was 8 and he desperately wanted Julio’s autograph. Julio’s line was the only one rivaling Coach Saban’s. We decided to get others to sign his ball, but as the players were headed to the buses, we walked alongside Julio. I told my son that Julio was much larger than his listed height and weight and did so loud enough that Julio could hear. I think he was listed at 200, maybe 205. I said that he was 220-225 if he weighed an ounce! Julio laughed and quickly grabbed my son’s football and scratched out his name. He handed it back quickly and said “I hope Coach Saban didn’t see that, because we were told not to sign anything once the horn sounded!”
Congratulations on retirement Julio and really on what you helped Coach Saban get started at UA!

I remember talking to my mom and dad about him when he committed and about how big of a star he was going to be. Some players, you can just look at them and tell. And with him, you just knew.

Shortly after he went pro (before they reported for camp), I went to get his autograph (way out in Anniston). The line was insanely long. But I remember him being humbled by how many people were there and how thankful he was for each person who showed up. He had/has class and that's one of the things I'll always remember about him. That and the TD catch against LSU at BDS in '09.

Had my then 8 year old son with me at that game. It was so loud after that catch we could not hear each other talking sitting beside each other. That was the firts time he had experienced that. His eyes were as big quarters experiencing that. Great times and great memories.

Just before the season started his freshman year, the old guy that referees practices came to speak at our alumni chapter. After the event I went with him and his handler (from the alumni relations group), to TGIFridays for some beers. The old guy got to talking about practices and moved to Julio. He told me he’d been on the field with a bunch of receivers, but had never seen one with the hands Julio had. Said any ball in his zip code was a catch.

I’ll never forget him playing in Columbia after having surgery on his hand earlier in the week. Had like 120 yards receiving and kept us in the game. With stitches in his hand. My daughters first Bama game.
