šŸ“” JoxRoundtable: Ryan Brown reporting Byrne has secured a donation large enough that it will allow him to arrange the additional financing needed to...

I had to replay it in my truck this am to make sure I heard him right. I hope it's true (and probably is as Ryan is very credible). I came around on the proposed "rebuild" but always wanted a ground up build from the beginning. Said years ago that a corporate sponsor like Mercedes was the way to go (but that was before they threw their name on the Super Dome and the new Atlanta stadium). I don't care if it's the Hoo's Q Arena. I just want an awesome new area. Would imagine Greg Byrne will respond to the "nugget" soon. Hopefully he confirms it instead of giving the, "let's wait and see, but we have options" answer.

Ryan Brown said that he has learned that AD Greg Byrne has secured a donation large enough that it will allow him to arrange additional financing needed to build a NEW on campus arena, not just remodel Coleman. @TerryP , you heard anything about this? @Brandon Van de Graaff ?

Tried to post this on your thread but it got moved so it wouldn't post....

Ryan wouldn't put that out there if he wasn't confident in his sources. I hadn't heard that, and am a bit surprised to be honest. But I know they've been working hard on fundraising and haven't stopped with the COVID problems. They've made a lot of donors mad these last few months, but if they've secured this funding, that is a major get. Especially right now. I will add that Byrne is extremely impressed with Oats and the job he is doing. He knows that if things stay on track, keeping him will be a fight at some point. We can pay him with the best, but this new or remodeled arena deal needed to be settled sooner rather than later for a number of reasons. I really thought with the hit the department was taking that the rebuild would would be sidelined for now. Glad that apparently isn't the case.

"Trust, but verify" doesn't seem to fit half of the time with Jox.

He has posted since:

No clue who his source(s) were, but it's not often that he steps out on a limb like that and misses. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on it for now because I wouldn't expect Byrne to confirm it anyway, especially if it's a corporate donor or a private donor that has given strict stipulations. There are some at Jox who you can't really pay much attention to (including some who are no longer there)... but guys like Brown, Cole, and Pat Smith have a pretty good track record overall.

The reference earlier was a blanket: Jox in general.

There's the thing. Pat's good friends with Paul outside of their working together. I know Paul gets info from Pat.

No doubt. I didn't know how tight they were until about a year ago when Pat started telling some stories when he was filling in on 3 Man Front. He's been around a long time and while he doesn't make the most entertaining radio, he will sort of drop nuggets sometimes in passing that nobody else has reported. I guess with me, if I heard Pat say it, I'd take it seriously. If I heard Paul say it, I wouldn't. But, I'll never hear Paul say it anyway. I even avoid his weekly 15 minute Monday morning appearances on The Roundtable. Just have no use for the bitch.

Do you remember a member Bocephus then Bo7? He introduced me years ago. It's greatly shaped my opinion of Paul and I've voiced my respect for what he's built. Not how, but what.

That username rings a bit of a bell, but once upon a time I lurked on a Hank Jr. message board that Doemasters ran, so I could be getting my wires crossed. :ROFLMAO: I too have respect for what he's built though, I just never wanted to contribute to it. Dude has just never been my style, even back in the 80's and 90's before he "made it".
