ESPN needs to tone down their reporting and stop the spin of stories. Fans don't need to know everything that goes on in such a public manner.
My take on Johnny, he also needs to tone it down. He's learning an awful lot about life in a very short period of time (certainly more than most). He is the creator of most of his issues
AND received help from the media and fans to blow things further out of proportion. In a weird way, I respect him for blazing his own path and doing things on his terms.
Oh yeah, good thing Alabama has never had any strong minded QB's on roster
I think the difference in reporting is that in today's age of 24/7 news coverage, and intimate coverage via Twitter, instagram, Facebook, etc, it's easy to get such a crazy look into the minute to minute happenings in a guy's life. It's scary but it's today's celebrity culture. It's definitely annoying, but imagine how different sports as we know it would have been in the past with social media and this rampant celebrity culture. Can you imagine Joe Namath with Twitter back in the day?
It shouldn't necessarily be a deterrent to celebrities but anyone with fame in this age has to be aware of their actions and what a simple Tweet can do to their image. Manziel is learning that, albeit slowly. It's a sad reality. He shouldn't feel like he has to change his life, but he should be aware that he will be scrutinized.
I have a family friend who is a TAMU alum, and she mentioned that there are some Aggie forums where folks incessantly STALK the guy and analyze his movements/actions/posts/pictures. So some people are definitely feeding the media monster, and the media responds to this demand with an ample supply of coverage. It's a vicious cycle.
I know one thing for sure though; I could NEVER be a celebrity in today's age .. it would drive me NUTS. :icon_bounce:
EDIT: This just popped up on my college football feed;

"Texas A&M quarterback
Johnny Manziel has apologized to the Aggies' coaching staff and is being advised to be honest about what led to his much-discussed departure this past weekend from the Manning Passing Academy, a source told ESPN.... Manziel, who is scheduled to speak at SEC media days Wednesday, was "very upset" as he headed home from the academy and has privately conceded that he needs to continue to mature, the source said."
Like you said, ESPN at it again! I just hope all this nonsense doesn't distract him. I'm not a big fan of him or anything, but I do want a good revenge game this season!!
