🏈 Jim Harbaugh suspended as UM regents discussed leaving the B1G conference

The B1G is definitely known for hyperbole...but this line made me laugh.

"This is worse than both the Astros and the Patriots -- it's both use of technology for a competitive advantage and there's allegations that they are filming prior games, not just in-game," a Big Ten source said. "If it was just an in-game situation, that's different. Going and filming somewhere you're not supposed to be. It's illegal. It's too much of an advantage."

So is this one of those things that everyone does and Michigan is just not very good at? Or is this actually a big deal? It seems to me that it would be pretty easy to steal signs in the modern age because of TV and video cameras on everyone's phone. And I have to say that it's pretty strange to me that a USMC officer had time to also be a volunteer coach for a major college football program. That smells fishy to me.

I’d be surprised if there’s a lot of this type of thing going on (the illegal version). Programs can usually harvest signals by working within the rules if they really want to, without the liability of doing something dumb like Michigan. Some guys have a knack for decoding and deciphering, and it’s obvious that this guy has that skill. Michigan’s problem is, they apparently got too greedy.

I’d imagine at some point in the near future, especially with the initial success of college baseball doing it, CFB will move to electronic communication similar to what the NFL uses, and that’ll pretty much put a lot of this stuff to bed.

In my opinion there are two parts to this story. The NCAA is already ticked off at Harbaugh because of the C-19 practice violations. Then this story comes across their desk and they are more than willing to pounce.

But, like Brandon said, it certainly looks like they just got sloppy.

I have no problem with sign stealing. It happens (ed) in baseball all the time. It is part of the game. This is just stupid, just like the NCAA.

If the NCAA had half a brain, they would allow teams to use an ear bud in the helmet of the QB, like the NFL. That would be a better rule than the $hit show they have created with NIL and transfer portal.

Sign stealing is ok by me. Don’t think there’s an actual “rule against it” is there??? Other than listening in electronically? If you don’t want them stolen, change them up. I used to change them week to week with 12-14 yr olds without a problem (both football and baseball).

This article could have been 1/4 the length and still had all the necessary info, but… more details…
