Butch Jones to Auburn, match made in heaven I think they would pursue someone like Freeze or Kiffin personally. No clue what those clowns can or can't do relative to buyouts.
I don't see Auburn being able to hire Freeze. In fact, I'd go as far as to say I don't think we'll see Freeze as a head coach in the SEC for a few more years--if we ever do.
We're one year removed from the SEC offices blocking teams from hiring him as an analyst or assistant. Is Sankey going to change his mind and allow a SEC to hire him as their head coach? I don't see it happening. If he did every bit of "power" he has left as commish is going to evaporate--and he doesn't have much of a reserve in his well.
Kiffin and the powers that be in Auburn? That makes less sense than the Chizik hire.
Probation still stands. Their scholarships losses are still there. The only thing that was returned was unofficial visits. It'll help them, but I can't say their punishment was removed.
To me, it was an odd penalty in the first place. It just doesn't "click" when you' have players and their families paying to visit a school and the NCAA comes in and says "those players and parents can't do that any longer." To me, that sanction seems to be as much against individual players who aren't in school as much as it is the school: if not more than the school. It's just...murky.
It seems to me someone reported or retweeted the result of their appeal and the story was changed as it made its way through the 'net.
When the sanctions were handed down they limited the number of unofficials visits, per recruit, to one per academic calendar year. It's that restriction that's been lifted. All of the other appeals on penalties were denied and they remain in place.
I can understand, to a degree, what the COI was after with the limitations on unofficials. Some of the violations happened during unofficial visits. I haven't been able to balance that penalty with how it would affect guys...all the way down to those who just wanted to walk-on. What if you were in a situation where you just wanted to play and you were down to the three Mississippi schools? That ability for one more visit, just to make sure, was taken away.
**Image this. I skimmed through a few of the articles that came out yesterday and I caught mention of the NCAA, once again, stepped outside of their own procedural guidelines on that penalty.
The barn and sense is not what you normally see in the same sentence.
The desperation to beat/compete with bama causes them to do crazy stuff. Just look at the Gus hire. He beat Ga/Bama back to back and they were so blinded by there giddiness they gave him a huge unwarranted contract.
