Can someone fill us in? Are one's versus the one's in the scrimmages? What is going on in this battle?

I'd give much to see it for myself.

If anyone can give any insight, please share.

Complicated question to answer.

A few yes answers to start. We are having 1's versus 1's during scrimmage. Jessie and Barrett do face each other.

But, a few caveats.

You have to consider how few times during a game we actually line up in a base 3-4, the majority of the time it's in our nickel. I mentioned that because if we are playing a 3-4 over Jessie ends up playing the 3 technique at times. You can look at game film and see times where we won't have both A gaps covered on the line of scrimmage.

When it's the responsibility for our nose to handle the A gap, he's (JW) still not facing Barrett one on one per se.

It's an interesting battle when they do face each other. On one hand you've got a guy who is physically strong enough to be a force in the middle. But, he's going against a guy who understands the technique of offensive line blocking.

Seriously, you put Jessie hitting the A gap and he's facing Barrett and Chance? I don't care how strong you are, you're playing against what very well could be the best center/guard duo in the nation.

Synopsis? We are more than OK when it comes to our NT position. When it comes to the center position I'm cautiously optimistic. I do believe we'll have some growing pains here with the position switch. But, we're fortunate to have someone like Barrett having that burden.
