And of those 6 deep pass completions, how many were great adjustments by Ridley...

In the Ole Miss game we could have scored 80 points had we been able to hit Ridley deep... he constantly had a step or two n the defender AND Safety for a TD if you can connect. I know it's not an easy throw... but he's going to have to get better if we want to be able to stretch the field. He's got plenty of time to learn, but that learning curve is getting compressed quickly as we move forward.

Hitting the long ball with our speed and talent is a no brainer. But is the long ball the same priority out of this offense as last year's model? When Hurts and company establish the corners in this offense it immediately shifts into high gear. KS LBs were having a knee-jerk reaction to the outside at the slightest fake to run from Hurts, as he merely fed the ball inside to Jacobs and the gang. He throws off those same reads effortlessly. I know it's nice to hit the long ball and I know Hurts will only get better, but it doesn't seem to have the same necessity for points and success in our scheme.

For cryin' out loud, this.

If they don't think you can complete the long ball, a better team will play the safeties closer to the LOS and more press coverage with the DBs to take away the running threat both in the middle and edge. You have to be able to threaten the deep ball to keep them honest. It doesn't have to be a focal point of your offensive strategy, but with such a low % of completions and an obvious area of weakness, teams will scheme towards moving a safety up in the box.

If I'm looking at the Bama offense and making a decision on how to defend it. I'm 100% sure that I'm going to do everything I can to stop the short passing and running game and let you prove to me that the deep ball is a threat before I put resources into protecting that threat. It's where our offense is "weakest" to date...

The spread is putting defenses on their heels with the multiple options and extra runner. From the last 6 quarters of Alabama football, I can almost promise the extra attention in the box. I also don't think opponents have any notion that Hurts can't beat you with his arm. I don't think it's as important to throw bombs successfully or not, to prove we can take your lunch money through the air. Still, that doesn't mean Hurts won't try to throw it down the field vs Kentucky.
We have more options to spread the defense.
Coach Stoops of Kentucky said about Hurts, "He's got a big, big-time arm and looks good."

Stoops impressed By QB Jalen Hurts

Are you serious? .... LoL

Dead serious!! I was there and watched every last play! The wife and I stayed on Podrias Street. I do my homework before spouting off about shit, unlike you.

I call a spade a spade and you have done nothing to prove otherwise that you AREN'T trolling. You are either a troll or some 15 year old kid that has no clue about football. Which is it?

Not sure, ole miss had a very good front 4 on defense. With Pierschbacher at his old spot, it seems to have settled things down. Bozeman is figuring it out and how steady can a freshman be with Williams at RT? The chemistry should only get better. When we decided to be a running team in the second half against the rebels it might as well have been Kent St.

Thank god for the freshman at RT. He is the best one of the group (OL). Just as the freshman at QB is the best of his group.

Actually, I'm a 50 year old man who likes yelling at people on an internet forum... :eyeroll:

Yeah he was Quarterbacking the Sooners when they wrecked us in the Sugar Bowl. Just sayin. The guy is one helluva QB, and picked apart a Saban defense as a freshman. It's not surprising to me that TAM is undefeated, and I think they're the second best team in the west.

Trevor Knight is not a good passer on a consistency level, he is well under 60% something like 50 I think. So half the time he hits a pass. He beat Arky plain and simple with his legs because like idiots Arky cleared the box. He punished them running.
