🏈 Jake Coker - Starting QB

All glory to the supreme being of your choice... and I hope the 1A QB is worthy of having his supreme being's warm eyes follow his progress and assist his progress to that of a champion caliber QB. And I further pray that CNS/CLK choose to allow 1B and 1C, opportunities for PT and NOT just hand the ball off. One of my fondest memories was the AJ "Spanky" moment when AJ forced the ball and got spanked when he came off the field. This could be a transition time for Bama O and as several have said, a HUSM O would be a devastating thing to watch. Combine that with the old "D" that "made (make) their asses quit" well, if in this age of equality in recruiting, UA can make these changes .... all hail #16, long live the NC's (and let me throw this in, College Game Day crew doesn't have UA in the Play Offs)

He hasn't played well at any showing but I'm hoping he is a lights on guy. Would be fantastic if not let Bateman go in.
Let me start by saying, I really appreciate all of your inside info
But I totally disagree with you here. I haven't been to all of the closed scrimmages and stuff, but I've seen Coker at ADay and in games last year and he looked really good to me, and with a high ceiling. It's really hard for me to believe that he's gotten significantly worse since then. Maybe we just have different perceptions of QB talent, or has he actually been a lot worse lately than his ADay performance?

What I've seen was sub par, I base what I say on people who judge talent for the NFL for a living. Rewatch aday, and fau. He has all the physical stuff you would want. However it's the mental part of the game I wonder if he can handle when it's a close game.

Hmm it will be interesting to see. In any case, I think that we'll have a really good team regardless of the QB. I think we have QB talent; it's just whoever emerges as the better "gamer"
I guess I'm just tired of all the worry. I think that whoever wins the job will be a good enough to make big plays, make the routine plays, and take us all the way. I don't think that our QBs are a bunch of bums

Yeah I'm good with whoever I'll support the water boy if that's the case. I think he may be a lights on guy. But I do know they programmed a package for him and Bateman.

With the quality of QB we have right now I very seriously doubt CNS is going to put the game in any of their hand's until proven otherwise. So whether it's Coker, Morris or Bateman, the offense will probably be called the same. Heavy doses of runs, short passes with the occasional deep play action pass.

Notice I said "at times." In his very limited action he made some really nice deep throws, a nice fade to Cooper in the endzone, and made some throws that Sims simply doesn't have the physical ability to make. Please don't make an ass of yourself - there's a reason that literally NO ONE was interested in Sims at the NFL level. Coker is a more physically gifted passer, plain and simple, and was last year.
I'm not hating on Sims. He had some unique abilities, and won the starting job fair & square, but he was probably one of the worst passing QBs we've had in a while, and could be completely ineffective and terrible at times

Tom Foolery, doesn't Sims own the season passing yards record?

Sims was a great kid and I'm happy for him for all the accolades he received with his out of nowhere season, but I'm going to play devil's advocate for just a moment. One of Sims' best attributes and smartest moves was when he was in trouble and the play was breaking down, he was dialing up #9 no matter where he was or how he was covered. And that worked out great the overwhelming majority of the time. So at least part of the credit for all those passing records has to go to undoubtedly the best wide receiver in Alabama history, Amari Cooper. Now fast forward to this season; we have some good WR's, but there's no Cooper split out wide this year so Jake doesn't have that luxury. That's a huge difference. Just saying...

2013- McCarron, 67 percent, 3063 yards, averaged 9.1 yards per attempts, 28/7 TD/INT, averaged 235.6 per game.
2014- Sims- 64 percent, 3487 yards, averaged 8.9 yards per attempts, 28/10 TD/INT, Averaged 249.1 yards per game.
Sims broke AJ McCarron's school season passing mark set in 2013......
I’m not sure where this part, " "But he was probably one of the worst passing QBs we've had in a while and could be completely ineffective and terrible at times." Came from. I don't see any thing that backs your theory up @uofarolltide

We really do have talented receivers... one thing we have luxury that Sims didn't really had last year was that we have plenty of receivers who are talented and we can spread the ball around.. last year, Cooper was a sure thing...

As I said earlier part of the credit for the numbers put up last year has to go to Coop and Kiffin. One of BS's other great points was when he did throw it it was gone with a quickness. Look back at all of those quick screens etc and watch how quickly he got the ball out to the receiver.

It will be interesting to see how quickly the QB (whoever it may be) gets the ball out on those type of plays.
