šŸ“ Jahmyr Gibbs has announced his transfer to Alabama.

Saban tried to warn everyone about this very thing. The pundits were saying Saban doesn’t like the portal because he wants to hoard all that talent. He calmly showed he wouldn’t be losing starters he’d be gaining them.

The only harm it has on teams like Alabama is depth but other teams are getting killed by these all-conference type players at a "lower" (perceived) level moving up to bigger schools.

I think Gibbs is going to be a massive get for Bama. The combination of he and Jace in the backfield, if both can stay healthy, will add so much to the offense and take a lot of pressure off that passing game. If Emmanuel Henderson can come in and play to his potential he could be a stud, too, and probably right off the bat as a returner. We're definitely going to lose some guys to the multiverse portal.
Just going by the highlights, the one thing I didn't see was his ability to get yards after contact, I think maybe two runs had that.

Had to go look.

RB: Jahmyr Gibbs, Georgia Tech

A top-100 recruit in the 2020 class, Gibbs averaged 4.17 yards after contact per attempt and broke 0.39 tackles per attempt on the ground in 2020. The latter mark ranked second-best in college football, behind only 2021 second-round pick Javonte Williams.

As great as that is, Gibbs was at his best in the passing game. His 2020 receiving grade tied for fifth among all Power Five running backs in the seven years of the PFF College era. He also ranked fourth among that group in yards per route run generated and second in the percentage of targets turned into a gain of 15-plus yards.

And remember, he did all of that as a true freshman. He’s going to be a nightmare for any defense to defend this fall and will have the chance to claim the title of top receiving back in the country.

Georgia Tech: Jahmyr Gibbs, RB
Gibbs took over for star running back Jordan Mason through Mason's absence and has continued to push the Ramblin' Wreck forward. Gibbs has the fourth-most missed tackles forced in the ACC despite not being the starter early in the year. Among ACC running backs with over 25 carries, his missed tackle forced rate of 39% is third best in the conference, surprisingly just behind teammate Dontae Smith but with 55 more carries.

More to RB than just speed. Najee had good speed, quickness, power and caught the ball well out of the backfield. My point in all of this is Najee was a beast and I sure hope this guy can get even close to that standard. If he does he will do well. Call me cautiously optimistic until I see it on the field at Bama. I honestly do not know anything about this guys but just know what we have had in the past and it is an exceptionally high standard. When this guy does what you guys are saying I would love to be reminded of this thread and my hesitation.
Sunday vs titans.... 12 carries for 19 yards....
Or something similar....

What's a perception? Gibbs is at a lower level and is moving up to a bigger school.

What you just said is a perception. Moving over to an SEC school from an SEC school is not what I would call moving to a "bigger school." Better? Duh but not bigger. I would considering going from Troy or another Sun Belt school to a power 5 going to a "bigger school."

So first of all.. 3:11 of the highlight video is one of my favorite highlights I have seen in a while. Secondly, that kid has fantastic lateral quickness and a freaky ability to stick a foot in the ground and change direction and has plenty of burst to take it to the house. Good get IMHO

The value of the athletic department at Alabama versus Georgia Tech proves it's moving to a different level. That's no perception.

ACC to SEC runs that way most of the time if not all the time.
