I've been hearing a lot of that since last night and initially I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I thought it was probably a rumor, but more and more it seems like that was in fact the case.

What a moron.

Do we "know" that our staff didn't make any kind of similar promises? Don't get me wrong, Saban certainly seems to be above such ploys and I'll be happy to hear we are not doing that kind of thing if it's true. I'm just suspicious because of the fact we aren't redshirting Scott. It just seems like a little bit of a waste to be using him this year. Last night we used Julio, McCoy, Upchurch, Ingram, McCall, Maze, and Walker in the pasing game and we still have Alexander and Gibson we COULD use. I'm just not sure how many touches Scott will get this year and wonder if he was promised he would not be redshirted?

I know that no such promises were made. The same couldn't be said under Shula however, though I didn't know about it until after he was gone.

Brian I was wondering some of those same things in dealing with all the talent we have coming in......when you think about it, that actually answers the question itself. All the talent we have coming in. Whats to say that there isn't another Juli-ocho out there that is a junior or senior in HS that will peak once he gets to college. (see Demeco Ryans)

We will have a plethora of talent coming in as long as CNS is there and we will not be recruiting to set up for a run at the MNC. We will reload and be mentioned in the same sentence as the MNC year and year out starting next year. I had the same reservations, but this year of game play experience will pay big dividends when we are breaking in a new QB next year. Sit back and enjoy the Roll Tide ride!

Did anyone else catch the paragraph about Bower's making the flashier 1st impression of the two highly vaunted freshmen between him and Julio? That fool said that Julio was a non factor after he made that first 8 yd catch. I don't guess he realizes that all of the DB's were watching Julio so close, they forgot to cover everyone else, like Nick Walker. Oh yeah, he also caught a TD and a very touch pass near the ground that kept a critical drive alive on 3rd down!

I think at this point in the season Saban may be wanting to see what Scott can do. I'm not sure about the specifics, but redshirting status doesn't have to be determined just yet right? Players have a certain number of snaps/quarters they can participate in before the redshirt comes off.

Saban and McElwain may be toying with the idea, but who knows? They might be looking hard at B.J. right now with the idea of having him contribute, but they could just as easily change their minds too. again, not sure on the specific requirements for redshirting.
