📝 Ishmael Sopsher and Devonta Lee Committing Tomorrow?

I read this several days back. Any information?
Sopsher

If you're talking about a post here there was one that followed it up, in reply, saying the public announcement was a ways off.

He may be a private--some really believe so. Some believe he's been that way for awhile. I've not heard that from anyone I know, or anyone that I'd readily believe. I do believe on the side of "it's a long ways off," still. He may choose Bama. I know LSU is going to have their say in his recruitment.

The WR of note this weekend is Robinson. I've not thought about D. Lee in a bit.

Thanks!

Did I hear correctly that Lee was not a take at this time due to numbers?

Sophsher is a tough one. You hear one minute he has not enjoyed his visits in Tuscaloosa, then you hear we are getting him, then you hear it's a toss up. Gonna be tough to get him from LSU, but it's not like we haven't done it before. If he goes to LSU they'll have one heck of a defensive and offensive line class this cycle.

Looks like most of this year's Bama class is accounted for. It's only natural for things to slow down and level off with just a few targets out there. Last year caught a lot of smart head coaches by surprise. I think some of them are going to make sure things don't get as hectic around the first signing period.

@NickelDoubleDog, Offers, yes. None that have stuck out to me as "damn, missed that one" type of guy. They're into single digits when it comes to these final spots. Give or take...eight still in play.

There's a few fun stories to watch in my opinion.

No insider information here (well maybe a little), but its always fun to speculate on possible commitments to fill the class. So, here's my list.

1. Ishmael Sopsher (DT) - Follows heart to BAMA despite instate pressure
2. Trey Sanders (RB) - Business decision in the end
3. Clay Webb (OL) - Close one with jawja
4. Darnell Wright (OL) - Close one with 10rc
5. Nick Cross (DB) - Gets the nod over Gates, continues Maryland pipeline
6. Nakobe Dean (LB) ;-)
7. Devonta Lee (DB/WR) - Too versatile to let go
8. Faatui Tuitele (DT) - Strong family ties to BAMA
9. Kayvon Thibodeaux (DE) - Replacing Rashad Cheney who eventually de-commits

Recruiting - BONE: Insider Report | BamaInsider.com
What now at DB?

I’ve read some things in the last few days suggesting Jeffery Carter did not have the green light to commit to Alabama. Something like this is typically posted when a recruit chooses another school. Some situations are different than others. Remember a few days ago when I said never trust a silent commitment if they are still taking visits? The only time I think it’s fine to talk about it is when a player commits then goes home and schedules an announcement. Jeffery Carter told Alabama to mark him down. Alabama gladly accepted his commitment.

However, Alabama started to grow a little skeptical after about a month passed and still no announcement regarding a decision. Carter scheduled a trip to Oklahoma this past weekend, but he canceled the trip. He announced his commitment to Texas A&M on Saturday evening. Did Alabama see this coming? They did not consider him a commitment when a month had passed, but would have accepted his commitment.

What happens now? Cornerback, despite what some may think, wasn't necessarily a priority position in this class. Alabama has always thought one corner was good enough in this class. It has to do with the early progress of Josh Jobe and Jayln Armour-Davis. These guys have been great, and they will begin their careers at CB. Alabama is extremely happy at where things stand with the young CB group. There is a chance they still sign a corner.

Alabama really likes Noa Pola-Gates, four-star cornerback from Williams Field High School in Gilbert, Arizona. Will Alabama take his commitment? Yes. He has a spot when he is ready to commit. It may change if he decides to wait until January (as currently planned) to announce a decision.

Alabama wants to get Akeem Dent, five-star cornerback from Plantation High School in Florida, on campus for a visit. I really don’t know where it all started regarding a likely flip to Alabama. Long way from that happening. I just don’t see it until he at least visits and gives UA an indication he is very interested. All it is is talk right now. Nothing more.

Alabama will get Tyrique Stevenson, four-star cornerback from Southridge High School in Miami, back on campus a few more times before he makes a decision. Nick Cross, Rivals100 safety from DeMatha Catholic in Hyattsville, Maryland, remains a high target. Alabama will get him back for an official visit. Alabama still has interest in a few other DBs like DJ James, three-star from Spanish Fort High School in Alabama, and DJ Daniel, from Georgia Military Academy in Milledgeville. A decision on those players down the road.

Dax Hill, five-star safety from Washington High School in Tulsa, is a hot topic. A decision is expected within the next few weeks. It seems every day there is someone new saying he is leaning this way or that way. No one seems to really know what he will do other than it’s down to Bama and Michigan. He canceled his visit to Oklahoma this past weekend. Some wanted to claim him as a done deal to Michigan. Then two days later all signs point to Alabama.

He has not given an indication of what he will do. Alabama felt good about him after his official visit. However, that was a month ago. He has remained in communication. Doesn’t mean anything. I am sure he has been in communication with other schools. Bama is in it. Based on the current info, it's Alabama or Michigan.

It’s starting to get a little tricky on the DL

An interesting prospect visited Alabama this weekend— Jaquaze Sorrells, four-star defensive tackle from Largo High School in Florida. He’s been on the Alabama recruiting board for a while, but I never considered him much of an Alabama target. I was told last week he was visiting for the cook-out. Alabama really likes him. He is a take at any time. He isn’t as heavily recruited as some of the other DL Alabama has recruited throughout the last few months. Alabama spent time with him this weekend and were sold. He is now in the mix.

I know there was a thread the other day regarding Faatui Tuitele, Rivals100 defensive tackle from St. Louis High School in Honolulu, becoming a major target once again. Tuitele is on the Bama board. Alabama likes him a lot. However, there is also a very small amount of space remaining to take quality DL while also trying to add players at other positions. I'm sure Alabama wants to see what happens with some other players- Sorrells, Nathan Pickering (who remains in communication with Alabama), Ishmael Sopsher, Siaki Ika, just to name a few. Expect Alabama to wait before they push hard for Tuitele.

I don’t feel as good about DeMarvin Leal flipping as I once did. I know he is still in communication with Alabama, but it's a tough pull with the way things are going at Texas A&M. I still expect to see Alabama lose one of its current commitments.

Keep an eye on Ty Robinson, four-star defensive end from Higley High School in Gilbert, Arizona. Alabama is still heavily recruiting him. He hoped to visit Alabama this summer. He does plan on taking an official visit. He keeps in pretty regular contact with Alabama. Don't rule him out just yet.

Another thing to consider is how much things can change during the college football season. Players who are committed elsewhere will take official visits this fall. Teams can easily falter this season, and we see recruits start looking elsewhere. No reason for any panic.

Still plenty of LB targets

UGA added an excellent player to its class on Sunday in Rian Davis, Rivals100 linebacker from Wekiva High School in Apopka, Florida. Bama was high on him. Davis seemed to have a lot of interest in Alabama after visiting in June. The commitment gives the Dawgs two inside linebacker commitments- Trezman Marshall is the second. Does it possibly help the Tide in landing Nakobe Dean, Rivals100 linebacker from Horn Lake High School in Mississippi? Possibly, but there is no doubt UGA will still accept Dean’s commitment.

Speaking of Dean- there isn’t really anything new to discuss. Some think he will make a surprise commitment before the start of the season. I’m not expecting it to happen. I think he will wait a while before he decides. He wants to take official visits this fall. He has taken an official visit to Alabama. I believe Alabama is in the driver’s seat, but a long way to go until there is time to celebrate. Dean visited Florida State this past weekend.

Christian Harris, four-star linebacker from University Lab School in Baton Rouge, visited Alabama on Saturday. He had a good visit from what I heard. Alabama likes Harris a lot. interesting to see what happens in the next few months. The longer he waits the more difficult it is for Alabama to accept a commitment based on numbers.

We will see a few other top linebackers make their way to Tuscaloosa this fall or after the season. Henry To’oto’o, Rivals100 from De La Salle High School in Concord, California, Daniel Heimuli, four-star from Menlo High School in Atherton, California, Mohamoud Diabate, four-star from Auburn High School and Trezman Marshall, four-star from Clinch County High School in Homerville, Georgia (UGA commitment). All of these players are still heavily recruited by Alabama. Not much to say other than they are all in the mix.

You still have the two five-stars—the outside linebacker/edge rusher type players in Kayvon Thibodeaux, from Oaks Christian in Westlake Village, California, and Nolan Smith, from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Thibodeaux certainly seems like the most likely of the two to join Alabama’s class. He has been to Alabama a few times and will return this season. I believe it will come down to Alabama and FSU.

It’s very hard to imagine Smith flipping his commitment from the Dawgs. However, he remains in communication with Alabama. May also see Khris Bogle, four-star defensive end from Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale and/or Marcus Stripling, four-star defensive end from Mayde Creek High School in Houston, visit during the season.

Five-star treatment

Darnell Wright, five-star offensive tackle from Huntington High School in West Virginia, took his much anticipated return visit to Alabama this past weekend. His mom was on the trip with him. It was her first visit to Tuscaloosa. There has been some speculation Wright may go ahead and pull the commitment trigger soon. I can say with pretty high confidence a decision is not expected until way down the road. He spent a lot of time with current players and commitments (most notably Pierce Quick). A lot of people think his decision will come down to Alabama and Tennessee. I definitely believe both are very high on his list. Ohio State is also a major contender. Expect at least one more trip for Wright (good chance a second happens) in the future. Hope to have more with Wright by Monday afternoon. A few text exchanges. Very tiring weekend and all day travel on Sunday.

OL musical chairs

Darrian Dalcourt, four-star offensive guard from St. Francis High School in Baltimore, is highly regarded by Alabama. He is considered a take. Dalcourt visited Alabama this past weekend with his teammate and Crimson Tide commitment- Shane Lee. Dalcourt had a good visit. It’s up in the air on what he will do, but he is now in play for the Tide. Alabama is recruiting him as a center. This isn’t a one or the other type situation with Clay Webb. Webb doesn’t want to play center in college. He didn’t start trying to learn the position until this past spring. Alabama is now recruiting Webb more as a guard.

We have been talking about the possibility of Webb, Wright and Evan Neal joining Alabama’s class. Now we are throwing in Dalcourt as a possibility. Crazy, right? Kamaar Bell, three-star center from Colquitt County High School in Moultrie, Georgia, is also recruited by Alabama as a center. He was in Tuscaloosa for the cook-out. He is ready to commit whenever given the green light by Alabama.

What about Evan Neal? There has been some talk about his mom favoring Miami. I believe Alabama has made up significant ground in that department.

Will Alabama sign 7 OL? No, but UA is not turning down any of these players- Wright, Neal, Webb or Dalcourt from what I've been told.

Bama pushing for Kentucky WR

Wandale Robinson, four-star wide receiver from Western Hills High School in Frankfort, Kentucky, returned to Tuscaloosa on Saturday. It was the second trip to Alabama this summer. He earned an offer from Alabama at the first camp. I said Alabama would go back to the drawing board and re-rank its top WR targets after camp season ended. Robinson was the best WR at Alabama’s camp this summer. Throw out his 5-foot-9 size. There wasn’t a better performance. Does Alabama want a bigger WR? Sure, but do they want Robinson? Absolutely.

Alabama is pushing hard for Robinson to jump on board. He has the green light. Robinson has official visits scheduled to Nebraska (September 1) and Alabama (September 22). He has taken visits to Michigan and Purdue. I expect Robinson in this class.

So what happens with some other WR targets? It’s probably just a wait-and-see approach. Alabama will continue recruiting a few players. We’ll see some players make it in for visits like Milton Wright and Jameson Williams. George Pickens is still in play. He is as good as they come at WR in this class. I think he is a five-star talent based on his performance this spring and summer. Different situations with each of these guys.

Metchie and Robinson (if he commits) are likely the only two WRs in this class.

No visit, no problem

Trey Sanders, five-star running back from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, was scheduled to visit Alabama for the cook-out. However, his high school decided not to let its prospects visit this past weekend. I have heard nothing but positive things regarding Sanders for the last two months. I would have expected him to stay in Florida after he decommitted from Alabama. We all know his brother, Umstead, is going to Florida. I think Alabama is in very good shape.

Some top juniors to know

Alabama hosted several underclassmen on Saturday. There were also a few who didn’t make it like Rivals100 running back Jalen Berger. Alabama extended an offer to Jordan Banks, four-star linebacker from Narbonne High School in Harbor City, California. He was very impressive from a physical standpoint. He plans to return to Tuscaloosa for the Iron Bowl. He will rank as one of the Tide’s top targets in 2020.

Reggie Grimes, Rivals100 athlete from Mt. Juliet High School in Tennessee, has Alabama's attention. The Alabama legacy earned an offer last month. There is still some debate as to which position he will play in college. He plays running back for his high school team (6-foot-5). I don’t think we will see him in the backfield on the next level. Alabama likes him a lot. He definitely has a spot if he wants to join.

Hearing Alabama was really impressed with Jaylen Garth, three-star offensive tackle from Groves High School in Port Neches, Texas, and Caden Clark, three-star tight end from Hoban High School in Akron, Ohio.

Malachi Moore, four-star cornerback from Hewitt-Trussville High School in Alabama, and Robby Ashford, four-star quarterback from Hoover High School in Alabama, were also on campus.

Final thoughts

Alabama feels good about where things stand on the offensive side of the ball even with players who have yet to announce decisions.

Questions still remain on defense. There are sooooo many top defensive targets still out there people shouldn't get discouraged if a few end up elsewhere. Alabama's defensive class has a chance to become spectacular.

Obviously, there are some players ranked higher on the board than others, but it will all work out in the end. This class isn't anything like 2018- you now that dreaded No. 7 class.

Don't even ask about the numbers. It will work itself out. It always does.

Quite a list there. Going to be Very, Very Hard to narrow it down. I'm going to go with
1. Sopsher
2. Sanders
3. Webb
4. Wright
5. Dean
6. Thibodeaux
7. Wandale Robinson
8. Daxton Hill
9. Evan Neal
Jeez, that is leaving out Lee, Ika,, Tuitele, Harris and Gates.

UGA and the Fighting Kirby's passed Bama in the recruiting rankings on Thursday.........JMO but you're not going to out recruit the Dawgs going forward. You will have to whip that azz on the field. We'll see.

For years, JUCO commits weren't counted in the rankings and now, all of a sudden they are. I see an agenda to maybe push their subscriptions.

Uhhh, most of Bama's top uncommitted prospects are still on the board. We will regain the lead.

Yep! 7 of those are 5* and have us in their Top 2-3, including Webb, Sopsher, Thibodeaux, Sanders, Dean, Hill, and Wright. Throw in 8 4* that we sit in pretty good shape with as well. We are going to turn away some pretty good guys that want to come but will get crunched due to numbers.
